PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Barbara Jordan Elementary School Community,
The Power of Parent Involvement and Collaboration
As we embark on another exciting school year, we want to take a moment to emphasize the incredible impact of your involvement and collaboration in your child’s education. Your active participation is not just beneficial; it’s essential for fostering a thriving learning environment.
Why Parent Involvement Matters:
Boosts Academic Success: Studies consistently show that children whose parents are involved in their education tend to achieve higher grades and test scores. Your engagement helps reinforce the importance of education and motivates your child to strive for excellence.
Enhances Social Skills: When parents participate in school activities, children develop better social skills and exhibit more positive behavior. Your presence at school events and your interactions with teachers and other parents create a supportive community for your child.
Strengthens Parent-Child Relationships: Engaging in your child’s education provides opportunities for meaningful conversations and shared experiences. This strengthens your bond and helps you understand their academic and social challenges better.
Ways to Get Involved:
- Attend Parent-Teacher Conferences: These meetings are crucial for understanding your child’s progress and discussing ways to support their learning at home.
- Volunteer at School Events: Whether it’s helping out at a school event, chaperoning a field trip, or assisting in the classroom, your time and effort make a significant difference.
- Join the PTO: The Parent-Teacher Association is a fantastic platform for collaborating with other parents and teachers to enhance the school experience for all students.
- Stay Informed: Regularly check school newsletters, websites, and social media for updates and opportunities to get involved.
Collaboration is Key: We believe that education is a partnership between the school and families. By working together, we can create a nurturing environment where every child can thrive. Your insights and feedback are invaluable to us, and we encourage open communication to ensure we are meeting the needs of our students.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication.
Sincerely,
Mr. Leiva

STUDENT ATTENDANCE COUNTS
Every day at school is a new opportunity for your child to learn, grow, and shine. Let’s make each day count together!
- Texas public school students must attend school at least 90% of the time a class is offered to receive credit or a final grade.
- If a student has three or more unexcused absences, days or parts of days within a four week period or ten or more days or parts of days within a six month period, they are considered truant.
- Excused absences in Texas public schools count as absences, but they don't count against a student and they don't count toward truancy. Excused absences are counted as if the student attended school for purposes of calculating average daily attendance.
