Media Center/Readers are Leaders
READERS ARE LEADERS
This is the final reminder about our the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum to Plantation Key School. The students are super excited because the museum features The Bermuda Triangle, a mystery we all love! The Mel Fisher Maritime Museum’s mission is to research, interpret, and exhibit the maritime history of Florida and the Caribbean in ways that increase knowledge, enrich the spirit, and stimulate inquiry. They are in Key West and do a different museum every year. Students will have a chance to visit the museum in Media Center and complete activities and view a variety of companion videos. Contact Dr. Cash if you would like to come visit the museum.
I launched the first challenge for grades K-5 last week. We are going to “partner” with Spookley, the Square Pumpkin who speaks out against bullying. Mrs. Hillman will also be working with the students, and we celebrated Unity Day by wearing orange on October 16th. This also reflects the C.A.R.E. focus in Media Center this year.
C = Caring
A = Adaptable
R = Respectful
E = Empathetic
Your teachers will let you know the challenge, but briefly students will read book(s) related to C.A.R.E. and check in with Dr. Cash for special Brag Tags.
Monroe County School District launched A Culture of Literacy, which I mentioned in the Newsletter, October is Batty about Books. Read with your children every day. Reading with your child is beneficial in many ways, but did you know that you can boost your child’s vocabulary development by reading and discussing books with them? Bring your own Culture of Literacy to your home by reading with your child(re) every day!
Information for this year’s Superintendents Remarkable Readers Awards will be shared soon. We have students earning Brag Tags every day, here is a First Brag Tag picture:
