Happy New Year!
Ahhh, winter - Eureka's "Secret Season". My favorite aspect of the cold months is the time and space it offers to reconnect with community members while tourism rests. We are excited to host a Foreign Film Festival every Friday from February 7th to March 7th in our recent library addition, the historic stone church building.
We polled the community for name suggestions and were overwhelmed with responses. You called, emailed, and commented on social media with many creative ideas! The winning suggestion is... THE BOULEVARD BOOKEND! This name brings in historical ties; the section of Spring Street from the corner of Hillside up to Grotto Spring was known as "The Boulevard". It is the "Bookend" of our library district which now consists of four historic buildings, and the building has a tall bell tower that resembles a library shelf bookend.
Calling all future Spanish speakers: Ms. Carmen will start a new round of Beginner Spanish classes on February 4th, so if you want to learn from square one, now is your chance! Anyone age 16+ is welcome to join on Tuesdays at 4PM in Meeting Room #1. The students that began in January 2024 are advancing to the Conversational Group, which meets immediately after the beginners on Tuesdays at 5PM.
All my best,
Christina Danos
