Welcome to February! This month we celebrate love, kindness, our Counselor, Mrs. Grunloh for School Counselor's Week and Black History Month! There is also some exciting news to share as Roskruge has been notified that we have been named a 2025 Magnet School of Distinction by the Magnet Schools of America! Schools receiving this honor go through a rigorous application process and schools are scored and judged on their demonstrated ability to raise student academic achievement, promote racial and socioeconomic diversity, provide integrated curricula and instruction, and create strong family and community partnerships that enhance the school’s magnet theme. We are so proud of our staff, students and parents as this is a whole school effort.

Please remember that February 13th & 14th are early dismissal days and students will be released early for Parent/Teacher Conferences. If you have not heard from your child’s teacher/s, please email them, or call the office so we can get a message to them to set up a time. If you are concerned with waiting, it may be better to contact your child’s teacher to schedule a time that works for you. Please keep in mind, not all students are seen during this round of conferences as teachers may select students based on specific criteria.

With Valentine’s Day coming up, we know students are excited to bring gifts to friends. Please touch base with your child’s teacher to see the criteria for any class celebrations. Students that receive large or distracting gifts such as flowers, balloons, stuffed animals, etc. will have to leave them in the office until the end of the day.

With us in second semester we begin to plan for activities such as dances, Puma Day, etc. Please have a talk with your child regarding behavior. We have been making announcements every morning that students with behavior referrals, excessive detentions, suspensions (in or out of school), etc. will not be able to take part in these activities.

Last month, African American Student Services came and presented to our middle school students about how hurtful slurs can be. Many students on campus have been observed and reported using slurs based on race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. As parents, we ask that you speak to your children about not using slurs, and remind them they will have consequences in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct for this hurtful behavior. Depending on the situation, racial slurs can fall into the category of a Level 2 or 3 violation which can include suspension. Please view the District Code of Conduct as well as some clips from it for your quick reference.

Don't forget to register your student for the upcoming school year. The online registration is open in your ParentVue account. Please log in to register as soon as possible. Registering early helps us determine how many teachers we will need for following school year, student placements, and planning. The link is available below.

¡Bienvenidos a febrero! ¡Este mes celebramos el amor y la amistad, a nuestra consejera, la Sra. Grunloh por la Semana del Consejero Escolar y el Mes de la Historia Afroamericana ! ¡También hay algunas noticias emocionantes para compartir, ya que Roskruge ha sido notificado de que hemos sido nombrados Escuela Magnet de Distinción 2025 por las Escuelas Magnet de América! We had over 200 students make growth on their last benchmark assessment! Students that made 5% growth or more, were able to attend a Ramen Rewards party. Students were able to garnish their soups with lemon and Valentina and showed excitement while speaking about how many percentage points they grew.

Recently, several staff have reported that parents are dropping off students in the staff parking lot and stay parked in staff parking spaces waiting for their students to come inside, talk on the phone, or leave their vehicle unattended. We understand the parking situation at Roskruge is not ideal, however, please do not use the staff parking lot to drop off or pickup students. All students should be dropped off on the north perimeter of the school. Students going to the cafeteria can enter through the northeast gate and use the walkway to walk down to the cafeteria. It is unsafe to have students walking through the busy parking lot, and our staff need their designated spots in order to be on time to work.

If you or someone you know has a kinder age student, please let them know that we will be hosting 3 kindergarten open houses to showcase our program. We would love to introduce our kinder teachers, show the classrooms, and meet prospective and future PUMAS! The dates and times are below:

All middle school students have received an ID and will be required to carry it with them. This card will be used for student attendance accuracy and will eventually be used to assign virtual hall passes. A student will be issued one replacement card if lost. If a student loses the card more than once they will be charged.

If your middle schooler is on the boys or girls soccer team, keep in mind that there is a $30 activity fee for their participation. You may come to the main office anytime to make the payment with a debit or credit card. You may also send cash, or a check made out to TUSD/Roskruge with your child. You also have the option of going online to apply for assistance with this fee. This money is used to pay for the game officials, to buy uniforms and equipment, and to pay the entry fees for tournaments. Thank you to all of you who have already taken care of this.

Thank you to all the parents/guardians that have volunteered to chaperone field trips this school year. Please keep in mind that if you are volunteering to chaperone a field trip, there are some guidelines to follow:

• Parents/Legal guardians may volunteer for field trips without having to be fingerprinted.
• Other volunteers such as grandparents, adult siblings, etc. must be fingerprinted through the district prior to volunteering.
• Siblings that are not in the same class may not attend the field trip. This includes infants, toddlers, and older siblings. Although we know it may be a fun activity for them, you are there to supervise and cannot do that while having to care for other children that are not part of the assigned classes.
• If you cannot stay for the entire field trip, please be sure to let the teacher know ahead of time. Sometimes we are only allowed so many spots for chaperones and we may have to give the spot to someone that can attend the whole event in order to ensure student to adult supervision ratios.

After School Procedures: Students must wait with their teacher or a designated monitor to be picked up after school. Playing is not permitted, as we have limited supervision, many parents entering the campus, and middle schoolers still in class.

Please remember:

• Once a student leaves campus, they cannot return without an adult.
• Do not send your child to wait with the monitor or play on the playground while you wait in your car.
• Once you pick up the student, they must stay with you and under your supervision at all times after school.

Students Staying for Games: Any student that would like to stay to watch a sports game must have a parent with them. We do not have additional supervision for students that want to stay late for games. Siblings cannot wait or be at games and practices without a parent/guardian.

Pets on Campus: Pets are not allowed on campus other than service dogs. This includes after school activities such as games or evening events.

Corner Store: Students are not allowed to leave to go to the corner store/tiendita once they are on campus at any time of the day. If you are bringing your child to school after 9:15 am you must get down and sign them in at the office.

• If you will be visiting the class for any reason even if it is just to drop something off quickly you must sign in at the office and get a visitors pass.
• Please wait outside at dismissal to pick up your child.
• If you will be coming in to get them prior to dismissal, you must sign in and get a badge.
• If you come to school and see your child outside, please do not call them to the fence to speak to them or drop things off. This is a huge safety concern as not all staff may know who you are and could think it's a dangerous situation.
• Doordash/Uber Eats are not permitted

• We do not sign elementary children out of school after 2:50 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and after 1:50 PM on Wednesday.

• We do not sign middle school children out of school after 3:40 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and after 2:40 PM on Wednesday.
• This is just another safety precaution in order for us to know who is in our building as well as allowing our students to become independent within the building.

Although, this may feel like an inconvenience it is to ensure everyone’s safety here on campus.

Here’s an easy way you can help raise money for our school year-round that costs you nothing:

• Download the Box Tops for Education App

• Follow directions to select Roskruge as the school that will benefit from your purchases.

• You will then see options to scan digital or paper receipts. If you select paper receipts, the app will allow you to take a picture of the receipt.

• After every shopping trip, follow directions on the app to take a picture of your receipt and Roskruge is automatically credited.

• Please scan all your receipts because often items that you would not think are part of Box Tops for Education actually are (like Progresso Soup, cleaning supplies, school and office supplies, pet treats, vitamins, hundreds of items.)

Our 21st CCLC grant will be complete at the end of this school year. The grant runs on a 5 year cycle and we are in our last year, so this means that we have to reapply. We have been invited to re-apply and are currently in the application process. We will know before the end of the school year if we will receive the grant again. We know many of you depend on this program and we are working diligently to make sure we can keep it.

Nuestra 21ª subvención CCLC estará completa al final de este año escolar. La subvención tiene un ciclo de 5 años y estamos en nuestro último año, por lo que esto significa que tenemos que volver a solicitarla.
