November 15, 2024
Greetings Conway Community,
As an Expeditionary Learning credentialled school, our site hosts visitors from across the country on a regular basis. It gives our site an opportunity to share best practices and affords our students the opportunity to make their learning visible by articulating what, how, and why learning matters.
This week our Student Ambassadors hosted thirty-six visitors from our own school district. These educators are part of our re-design school process and visited Conway to experience firsthand what is possible. Our Student Ambassadors lead a campus tour and informed our visitors of what makes Conway unique. For example, they explained Crew, Expeditions, field work, Leadership crews, the process for high quality work, and so much more. They answered some really hard questions and truly exemplified strong student leadership. Thank you to Mrs. Ellsworth, our Student Ambassador teacher leader, for her guidance of these remarkable students.
Ultra ASB Fun Run Success
Thank you to all our families that supported our annual fun run. Our students certainly persevered as they gave it their all. Check out some of the fun photos here https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1rsxUK47_1W3pKk_UmjMfMo22ELqTFYwk?usp=sharing.
Because of your generous contributions, ASB has raised over $7,000 so far, that's EPIC! These funds will be used to update our very tired sound systems that support our students' presentations and assemblies.
Student prizes for earning points will be delivered the week after our fall break.
Thank you to our ASB and Mrs. Banks for their dedication to supporting high quality programs for our learners.
Former Conway Student Spotlight - TEDx
Watch our former Conway student, another young presenters at the TEDx event in Escondido, speak about a compelling topic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aW4J_eTQGc.
Zander Chan enjoys soccer, video games, and the epic adventures of One Piece. Beyond the virtual battles and on-field victories, on of the most fulfilling chapters of his life was his tie as a past of the leadership Crew at Conway Academy, known as Ambassadors. As an Ambassador, he had the privilege of welcoming newcomers to the school, sharing its spirit, and leading informational tours. Beyond the school gates, he seized opportunities to speak at notable events hosted by EUSD, amplifying the school's voice in the community. Along the way, he has been honored with awards for his athleticism, dedication as an Active citizen, and academic achievements as a Scholar at Conway. Excited for the next chapter of adventure, both on and off the field.
Our week ended with a student performance of the Jungle Book on Friday. They will perform to families at an evening show at 6pm Friday. Our learners continually impress. It is incredible to see them discover and achieve more than they think possible.
I am grateful for the opportunity to inspire students to discover their unlimited potential through Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Compassion. Together we are creating an EPIC school.
We are in this together and believe, We Are Crew, not passengers.

Week # 14 Update
Student Leadership
Art Box
This year ALL students created a SELF PORTRAIT to be used in their portfolios and made these special keepsakes available to all our families to treasure high quality work. Most students submitted a work of art that can be reproduced on any of our products, offering parents an item as original as the child who designed it. The Gerardy Photography ArtBox order form has a unique code for parents to use to order products. These were distributed to all classrooms on Thursday.See how this program works here https://www.artboxforschools.com/.

English Language Advisory Committee
Thursday, November 21st at 8:30 am in room 5.
ELAC is a GREAT opportunity for families specially those of those whose English is their second or third language. A wondering that has sparked among families is,
what supports do English learners receive at Conway?
How do they look like?
With the support of our MTSS (Multi-Tier System & Support) attendees will be able to learn of what support systems are in place at our site.
We hope to see you there!
