Dear Parents/Carers,
This week was all about the Nativity! Well done to our Reception, Year 1 children and staff for a wonderful week of performances. I was lucky in that I was able to chat to parents and grandparents as they left and everyone had a fantastic time. They couldn’t believe how the children had learned all of the lines when lots of them can’t yet read!
We have great teachers at Kirk Fenton and as part of their continuing professional development, some of them offer to mentor teaching students from local universities.
This week Mr Symes has been visited by his students’ tutor and together they observed a lesson. The visiting tutor was impressed by the parity between her observations and his – nice work Mr Symes!
Today we have celebrated the winning house for the term by having a house picnic for the team with the most points. I really appreciate the team spirit across school – despite disappointment at not winning, we all behaved supportively to our friends and classmates and demonstrated that we are learning life lessons.
Yesterday, I spent some time with the wonderful volunteers at The Spirit of Christmas in Selby this week, collecting gifts for our families. They also do a ‘Banana box project’ The boxes include stationary items for children to use for homework, a notebook, age-appropriate book, game and puzzle. They also make up specialist SEN boxes. They are all free and I can order them through school. Please let me know if this would be of interest to you in the new year.

Finally, a huge thank you to staff and parents who supported the Christmas Fair last week. The final total raised was over £1100. Well done to all involved!
Best wishes for a great weekend,

Wright Brothers Toy Stall for Charity, Thursday 19th December
Wright Brothers class has been inspired this week by our R.E. question 'Why do Christians give gifts at Christmas?' They thought about people who are less fortunate than us and decided they would like to do something about it. The most popular suggestion was to run a toy stall and donate the money to Christian Aid.
Please bring in any unwanted toys that you wish to donate by Tuesday 17th December and we will run our toy stall on the playground immediately after the KS2 carol concert on Thursday 19th December. Please come along and support this good cause.
