EVENT SAFETY REMINDER: Lexington-Richland School District Five is committed to the safety of everyone who attends our district events. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the steps we take to ensure event safety for students, staff, and the community. Thank you for your cooperation. We will see you at the game!
- Clear Bag Requirement
- Student Supervision: All students 8th grade or younger are required to attend games with parents or guardians.
- Tickets: Admission will be charged throughout the duration of games.
- Metal Detectors: The district has implemented metal detectors to screen all spectators, beginning with varsity football games at Chapin High School, Dutch Fork High School and Irmo High School International School for the Arts.
- Safety Officials: We partner with law enforcement and event staff to ensure spectator safety for the duration of the event. School Resource Officers also will travel with teams at away games.
Mr. Cameron's Astronomy Classes
As the classes of Astronomy continue to study a myriad of cosmic topics, they
took a quick detour last week to watch a live space launch from Russia with two
Russian Cosmonauts and one American Astronaut. Later that night many of them
went out into the night sky and observed ISS (International Space Station) as it
passed over Irmo, noting that the three men they saw earlier from the launch
were now on the ISS. Several students were able to capture it on video using
their cell phones. They then presented the video to the class the next day.
Pictured here is the 7B class performing a demonstration that involved reasons
why Mercury and Venus do not eclipse the Earth.
