Celebrate TeenTober
Every October YALSA focuses on and celebrates teen programming and engagement in libraries with TeenTober. The aim of TeenTober is to highlight and promote teen services and literacies year-round. TeenTober replaces YALSA’s previous Teen Read Week and Teen Tech Week with a combined celebration for the entire month of October.
For programming ideas, sample press releases, social media posts, and more, you can use YALSA’s TeenTober Toolkit. This Toolkit has everything you need for hosting a successful TeenTober at your library. TeenTober graphics are also located on YALSA’s TeenTober website.
Another great way to celebrate TeenTober is to start a Girls Who Code club at your library.
Girls Who Code provide support to run a successful club for girls and boys. “Our Girls Who Code Clubs are free programs for 3-5th and 6th-12th graders to learn computer science… using tech to change the world!” – Girls Who Code. You can start a Girls Who Code Club with these simple steps:
Step One: Visit the Girls Who Code Website - Get Involved/Start a Club
Step Two: Present the information to your Library Board and other Library Staff
Step Three: Complete a Girls Who Code application and be approved
Step Four: Receive free books from the South Dakota State Library while supplies last!
TeenTober also marks the opening of voting for the Young Adult Reading Program!
We hope these diverse titles will appeal to all teen readers. Order these amazing books now, and your teens will be able to vote for their favorites.
Teen Choice Book Awards voting runs October 1st through April 1st. Visit library.sd.gov for all the details and to start voting now.
Don’t forget about the downloads available on the SDSL website for bookmarks, labels, and logos!
