Plympton Family Update
January 10, 2025
From the Plympton Admin Team
Dear Families,
We had a great week at Plympton! The grade 2 students had a visit from High Touch High Tech of NE and experienced the Jurassic, Jr. program. Our Kindergarten students had a visit from Mass Audubon - Wild Tales. Both visiting artists were brought to us by our amazing PTO. Thank you!
🔬 Spotlight on Science! 🔦
In the month of January, fifth graders will be completing tasks about chemical reactions and properties of matter. They will be measuring substances before and after a reaction or phase change to provide evidence that regardless of the type of change that occurs when heating, cooling, or combining substances, the total weight (mass) of matter is conserved.
Fourth graders will be completing tasks about energy. They will be releasing marbles down a roller coaster track to understand height energy and energy transfer. Then, they will be using a simulation to connect energy to speed.
Third graders will be starting their first life science unit about heredity, survival, and selection. Students will complete tasks about inherited and acquired traits of plants and animals. They will analyze the traits to provide evidence for how those traits vary, how they are inherited, and how they have changed over time.
Second graders will be completing tasks about material properties. They will be taking a virtual field trip to a foundry. The will also be exploring the different properties of materials used for clothing, such as texture, flexibility, and absorbency. Students will use this information to design and build a hat that protects them from the Sun.
First graders will be completing their Earth and Space unit. The first graders will be graphing temperature data and making observations about the four seasons.
Enjoy the weekend!

Today in math, grade 2 students solved story problems about ribbon lengths and used diagrams to help them find the unknown values. Here are some pictures of the students calculating their answer with partners and then measuring the unknown length at the end to check our work!
