On Friday, October 26, students in grades 1-8 will have early dismissal at 11:30 a.m. to allow time for District staff to work on school improvement activities. Please note that half-day students (Early Childhood Special Education, Pre-K, and Kindergarten) do not attend school on SIP days. For the full list of 2018-19 SIP days, Click Here.

During a special parent program on Monday, October 29, 7 p.m., at Hadley Junior High School, District 41 and the Glen Ellyn Police Department will introduce new messaging and training that will be happening in all District 41 schools. Safety is our number one priority. Please attend this important meeting to learn more about school safety and how to talk with your children about staying safe. This is an opportunity to learn about what District 41 does in terms of drills and protocols.

Hadley Junior High Builders Club and students in the English Language Learner (ELL) class taught by Teresa Shea took over the Gardens for Giving this past spring. Gardens for Giving was a Problem-Based Learning unit started several years ago by Hadley students. All food harvested from the garden is donated to the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry. Students planted the garden in May and families took turns weeding and harvesting vegetables throughout the summer.

A special thank you to community member Kelley Kalinich for making many drop offs to the pantry on behalf of Builders Club. Thanks also to the Hadley families who contributed plants in the spring. Annie Kane, former PBL coach at Hadley, and Renae Frigo, Naturalist with the Glen Ellyn Park District, were key to ensuring that the garden had another successful year.

Parents are invited to learn about what nurtures the brains of our youngest learners from presenter Dana Suskind MD, pediatric otolaryngologist, on Tuesday, November 13, 7 p.m. at the Glen Ellyn Public Library. This presentation is especially informative for parents of infants through elementary school aged students.

In this presentation, Professor Suskind will reveal the recent science supporting her important work, and outline how parents can best put this science into practice. Participants will learn how to enhance their home language environment in order to optimize their child’s brain development and, therefore, his/her ability to learn.
