From the Desk of Mrs. Weekes
Dear Los Pen Families,
I can't believe it - today we had our last Friday Flag of this school year. We celebrated our
Character Counts winners, Running Club participants and Valedictorians of the Month for the final time in '24-'25. Ms. Bohn and I also had a student Counselor for the Day (see his write-up below) and Principal for the day.
Frances Fitzgerald, a 3rd grade student in Mrs. Wolf's class, was Principal for the Day. After Friday Flag, Frances and I had the honor of attending the grand re-opening ceremony of the Vons at 13255 Black Mtn Road. There, we were gifted a check for Los Pen in the amount of $2500! When we returned to campus, we visited classrooms and showed everyone our student-sized check!
This week, we also honored Ms. Suada with a decorative tree and bench outside of where she worked in Room 21. The tree will serve as a reminder to everyone that passes to spread kindness, which was a message that Ms. Suada held deep in her heart. The bench will be a wonderful space for a mindfulness break or to make a new friend.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Weekes
A Note from Your Counselor
Hi Parents!
Guess what? I got to be Counselor for the Day at school — and it was AWESOME (and hard work too)! I even got to eat Chick-fil-A, which made it even better! 🍗😋
Being a counselor isn’t just about talking to kids — it's about really listening and helping people feel better. One of the first graders was really sad, but after we talked, he felt better because he understood the problem and came up with a solution. That felt really good to see.
I didn’t know so many kids needed support. Some needed shoes, others were having problems with friends, and some were just having a rough day. A lot of people just needed someone to hear them out — and once they felt heard, they were ready to go back and learn. That’s something I learned really fast: being a counselor takes a lot of patience and heart.
You also have to pay attention to everything going on. If a kid says something mean to another, you have to catch it and help fix it. You have to be aware of your surroundings, and you need a BIG brain to keep track of all the things happening at once.
On top of that, the counselor runs so many cool clubs like Safety Patrol, Welcome Ambassadors, and Hope Squad. There’s always something happening, and you’re always helping someone.
I learned that being a school counselor is not easy, but it’s important. It felt good to be someone others could talk to and trust. I have a lot of respect for our counselor now!
Sincerely,
Mr. Manrab- Counselor for the Day
