From Your Pastors
Dear Zion family –
We had an incredible Commitment Sunday last weekend. You pledged over $1.3 million to support Zion’s ministry for 2025. There’s still time to pledge. Just email our business manager, Steve Cashio, at steven.cashio@zionwalburg.org with what you plan to give in 2025. Remember, we use your pledges to form the foundation of Zion’s annual budget, so your pledge is very important!
Last weekend, we also asked you to fill bags with Thanksgiving meal items for Zion’s first ever Family Day of Giving and Thanks – and you came through in a big way. All our bags have already been taken. On November 27 at 9 am, Zion will be sharing these meal kits with nearby families who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford a Thanksgiving dinner. You can sign up here to help bless a family on Thanksgiving Eve. If you can’t help pass out meal kits, you can still donate to help purchase perishable food items for these kits by writing “Thanksgiving” in the memo portion of a check written to Zion.
In worship this weekend, we’ll celebrate Reformation Sunday, which commemorates the ministry of Martin Luther and gives thanks for his commitment to the message of the gospel – that God sent His Son to die on a cross in our place for our sins. We’ll look at how the apostle Paul explains this great sacrifice in Romans 3:21-28:
But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of His blood – to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance He had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished – He did it to demonstrate His righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the One who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. Because of what law? The law that requires works? No, because of the law that requires faith. For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.
Paul says that because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, we can be completely assured that we are forgiven of all our sins. We’ll Learn more about how God's forgiveness in Christ works, and we’ll sing beautiful Reformation hymns led by some incredible guest musicians this Sunday in worship. You won’t want to miss it! We worship at 8 am in our beautiful historic sanctuary, at 10:45 am in our wonderful worship center, or online at zionwalburg.org.

LWR Quilt Dedication
We are thrilled to share the news with you that the LWR Quilt & Kit Ministry is expanding to reach neighbors in need in the United States. This means that quilts and kits will now comfort families here in the US and abroad as they always have. LWR Quilts are already on the way to partners in the US with the first distributions expected to happen later this year. Zion is sending 75 quilts this year and dedicating/blessing them on Sunday, October 27th.
PTL Fall Carnival
It's time for the annual Fall Carnival, hosted by Zion PTL! Fall Carnival is a fun event for the whole family. Join us in the field behind the worship center on Sunday, October 27 from 3-5 p.m. for inflatables, lawn games, a hayride, pumpkin painting, etc. Feel free to wear your Halloween costume (no scary ones, please) and bring money for kettle corn and the concession stand. Everything else is FREE courtesy of PTL. See you there!
Wurstbraten 2024
Wurstbraten is fast approaching, and your help is needed! This event provides opportunities to meet new friends and catch-up with many Zion members. Making sausage is always more fun when lots of people are involved. On Saturday, November 2, we need volunteers, starting at 7:00 a.m. There are also MANY opportunities November 1-5 to help. Sign-up sheets are in the Narthex and Lobby or click the button below. Please take the time to sign up, even if you can only commit to a few hours and BRING A FRIEND!
*See the highlighted portions of the work schedule below to see which areas still need help.
Wurstbraten tickets will be available at the Wurstbraten poster area Sunday after 8 a.m. service and before 10:45 a.m. service. $15.00 payable to Zion Lutheran Church.
Lutheran Disaster Care Coat Drive for Hurricane Victims
Lutheran Disaster Care is organizing a Coat Drive to support those impacted by the recent hurricanes in North Carolina. As colder weather approaches, many families are in need of warm coats to stay safe and comfortable.
We are asking all Lutheran churches to participate in this effort by collecting new and gently used coats through November 10. Your donations will make a real difference for those struggling to recover from the devastation.
For more information or to get involved, please contact Dan Cowan 817-992-1138. Together, we can show the love and care of Christ to those in need.
Iron Sharpens Iron
November 10th, 5:30-7:30pm Zion Worship Center
Men- the simple Bible verse of John 20:21 says "Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” Have you felt the tug to tell someone about Jesus or have examples/stories you would like to share in addition to learning more about sharing your faith?
The next Iron Sharpens Iron will focus on examples and stories of sharing your faith as well as how to grow in sharing your faith. Pastor Zach will be our moderator and teacher in helping us learn and grow in this aspect of our walk with Jesus!
We invite you to (anonymously) submit stories and examples of sharing your faith, along with questions you may have about sharing your faith to the email zionwalburg.isi@gmail.com . These questions and stories will be shared/discussed on that evening as information for us to grow and learn about sharing our faith!
We look forward to seeing you there! As always, there will be a free meal and time to get to know each other!
Pillowcase Palooza
Zion is collecting new or gently used pillowcases during October. There will be containers for the pillowcases in the Narthex and Worship Center Lobby. These pillowcases will be made into dresses for girls in Africa by fellow Lutherans and delivered by the Orphan Grain Train Organization. Please do not bring white, black, or gray pillowcases. If you have any questions, you can ask a member of LWML Evening Circle or Joy Cowan.
Wurstbraten History Report from Weldon Mersiovsky
As many of you may know, I have recently been accumulating pictures, documents, and stories about Wurstbraten from the very first one in 1971 until now. My original intent was to put this into a book and publish it; however, I have come to the realization that it would be more effective and inclusive to put what I have collected onto a website accessible through our church website. To that end we have purchased and now own the internet domain of wurstbraten.org and now want to solicit from among you anyone who has website design experience and willingness to implement, design, and build the website onto which we can load what has been gathered. I am hoping that we can develop a team that handles all of the functions necessary to do this.
If you would like to help in this regard, please get in contact with me and we can decide on how to proceed.
My email is 49weldon72@gmail.com and my phone is 512-635-6429.
Thank you! Weldon Mersiovsky END
