High Performance Learning School
Introduction by Mr D Gittins, Acting Deputy Headteacher
With Year 11 and Year 13 students having already started their exams, we are in the middle of busy period at Colton Hills. Whether attending our extra revision sessions after school or coming in for an early ‘revision breakfast’, the level of effort and determination on display is impressive. During the revision breaks, a favourite topic of conversation amongst Year 11 students is their Prom taking place on 20th June. Outfits are already being prepared for what is always a stand-out event on our school calendar.
It's not just the Year 11 students who are gearing up for a party. Interest is high for the Colton Hills 50th Anniversary celebrations. There will be food, performances and our sports hall will be transformed for this exciting event. Above all, it will be a great chance for ex-students and staff to reminisce about their time at this school in years gone by.
In other news, we are looking forward to welcoming not only our new Year 7 students for their transition days this July, but also current Year 5 students will have the opportunity to come for a taster session in June where they will experience life in a secondary school through a range of different lessons.
Finally, rehearsals are well underway for our big school production of Bugsy Malone. Tickets are on sale now for what promises to be our biggest and best production ever. In you fancy a fun-packed evening of song and dance, make sure you get your tickets before they sell out!
2024 School Boxing Champion
Congratulations to Zidane in Year 8 on winning in his category at the England Boxing National Schools Championships 2024 for the second year in a row! 2023 and 2024 National Boxing Champion!
We are extremely proud of his achievements. Congratulations to Zidane and the whole Pound 4 Pound Boxing academy team.
School Photography and Videography Session
On 29 April, we had a professional photographer in school to help capture some new photos around the school. Some students and teachers were involved in the project and were extremely co-operative and posed for the camera. Video recordings took place on 13 May and we had some lovely Year 7 volunteers who were fantastic with the camera and were a delight to work with. Thank you to everyone who offered their time to help out with this project.
Support our Snowdon Fundraiser
As part of our school's 50th anniversary celebrations, a special Mount Snowdon fundraiser climb is being held by trustees and volunteers (including CHCS staff) of The Birch Thompson Memorial Fund on 18 May.
At present the youngest person will be 12-year-old Ethan Morris, grandson of Trustee Andy Morris: the eldest is founder Trustee of the Charity, Keith Berry who will be 83 years old. Neither Ethan nor Keith will reach the top but they are asking you to sponsor them for the first 1000 Steps up Snowdon!
The monies raised will go towards the laying of an area at the back of Gelliwig with either natural grass or synthetic surface.
Please share and support this amazing cause! Thank you for your support!
