Kott's Korner
Can you believe it is already the middle of February? It always amazes me how quickly the school year flies by. Please be sure to talk with your child about all of the things they are learning.
With winter weather being unpredictable, remember to be proactive and plan ahead. Have a back up plan if you are having car trouble or miss the bus. If school is canceled, have some indoor activities that children can do if you need to work from home or have a sitter come over. Books, puzzles and board games are always great choices.
Remember, Mid-Winter Break begins February 14th and ends for students February 18th. I hope you are able to enjoy some time together as a family. We look forward to seeing students’ smiling faces return to school on Wednesday, February 19th.
Enjoy your weekend,
Denise Kott

Parent Outreach Program Newsletter
Good afternoon Holly Area Schools families,
Today, we want to share with you our February Newsletter! This month, we focus on prioritizing mental health, the importance of sleep for adolescents, and practical strategies help manage difficult emotions as adults - so we can help our children do the same. Additionally, we explore how household chores can help build career readiness skills at any age.
We would love to connect with you at our February events, including the February Parent Cafe at Holly Elementary, where we will discuss early literacy development with Debbie Hernan from the Holly Township Library. For more details, please check out the event section of our newsletter.
Thank you for being such an important part of our school community!
Best,
Trisha Crotteau, Cheryl Price, and Sydney Sinclair

Leader in Me & Core Competencies
The Leader in Me Section: Revisiting Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood
When you seek first to understand, then to be understood, you listen to other people’s ideas and feelings. You try to see things from their viewpoint. It can be difficult to listen without interrupting, even for adults. However, it is important as a skill to completely understand the other person.
Ways to practice Habit 5: Try going a set amount of time without talking, even once. Watch the people around you, listen and see if you gain a greater understanding of them. Talk as a family about someone you feel is a good listener, what makes them good at this? How does it make you feel?
