STAFF CORNER
Notes from the Family Ambassador
Hello Gables Parents! The second Panorama survey of the year will be starting on March 3rd.
You may be asking "Remind me, what is the Panorama Survey again?"
Columbus City Schools (CCS) created the vision that each student will have a world-class model of public education that prepares all students to be Portrait-ready graduates and reach their full potential. The Panorama Survey, administered yearly since 2017-18, was developed by CCS in partnership with Panorama Education to measure progress toward that goal and gather feedback from our community. This year, we are excited about the new, shortened, more streamlined version that will allow us to take action steps based on your feedback.
You will be sent a parent QR code to access the Panorama survey beginning March 3rd. The survey will be open until March 14th. For questions, please contact us at panorama@columbus.k12.oh.us.
To learn more about the Panorama survey please visit Whole Child Supports / Panorama
Taking this survey is so valuable to our school, it gives a voice to all partners involved with our student education, from student to staff and guardians. Please also remember that this is an anonymous survey. You will see additional information about the survey and the QR code to take it next week in the smore. Thank you for participating!
We love to learn!

School Nurse Update
School-aged kids (6 to 12 years)
Recommended sleep duration: 9 to 12 hours
When your child starts going to school, their No. 1 job is to learn. Getting sufficient sleep will go a long way toward keeping them engaged during their classes.
“Kids who aren’t getting enough sleep are more likely to have problems concentrating and behaving appropriately at school,” Dr. Shah shares. “Insufficient sleep can affect them in ways that make them fall behind their peers in classroom performance.”
Beyond the classroom, a lack of sleep also can make it difficult to keep up in sports or other extracurricular activities. Establish healthy bedtime routines, and get those zzzz's!

School Counselor Update
Did you know that our character trait this month is kindness? There are so many books and videos at our fingertips to help teach our kids kindness and compassion, but what does kindness mean?
I found a great article online that delves into kindness a bit further. According to the dictionary ...
Kindness is defined as the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.
But kindness means so much more ...
Kindness can mean different things to different people. The meaning is in how YOU choose to show it. Be it through empathy, acceptance, kind gestures, thoughtfulness, the possibilities are entirely up to you. Kindness might look like being helpful or showing empathy. It may mean doing nice things without expecting nice things in return.
Kindness is more than being nice.
Kindness goes beyond merely being nice. Think about it - would you prefer people to describe you to be "kind" or "nice?" There can be a lack of sincerity in just being nice; there is often a perception of doing the minimum. Whereas being kind is doing intentional, voluntary acts of kindness. Not only when it’s easy to be kind, but when it’s hard to be.
Kindness is a movement.
Has someone ever done something kind to you and all you wanted to do after was pay it forward? That’s because kindness is a chain reaction. It’s a wave that keeps rolling, and all it needs is one person to start it. One small kind act can cause a ripple effect that impacts an entire community. If we are all focused on being kind, we are creating a movement of change. You know that famous "be the change you wish the see in the world" quote? That quote isn't just about change, and it isn't only about one person being able to change their world. It's bigger; it about a movement that can be started from one person acting with intention.
One of my favorites of all time is the Steve Hartman Kindness 101 series. Simply google it and you will come across many short videos to share with your child. Here is a great one on leadership.
