CIS Weekly Updates
2024-2025: #1 August 26 - 30, 2024
#4: September 16-20, 2024
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Our students are doing a great job so far this school year. Sixth graders are leading the way, and fifth graders are getting acclimated to their new learning environment. Today, we started a new award at lunch. The gold tray award goes to the 5th grade and 6th grade groups, who do their best at keeping the volume down and cleaning up their area in the lunchroom. Students are competing to earn extra recess time.
Our PTO appreciates your support throughout the year. I encourage all to attend the PTO meetings and get involved throughout the school year. Our Read A Thon is well on its way to surpassing our goal because of the great families we have at CIS. So far, we have logged 6,867 minutes of reading!
Once we total 1,000 bear paws, our students will earn Chromebook stickers. Students have earned 662 bear paws so far this school year. This is the first of many opportunities our students have to earn building-wide rewards for living the behavior expectations at CIS. Also, we have a bear paw drawing at the end of each week. Individual winners get to pick something off the prize cart.
Have a GREAT Week!
Brandon Cobb, Principal
READ-A-THON FUNDRAISER - CONTINUES THIS WEEK
Our first PTO fundraiser of the school year is off to a GREAT start! This fundraiser will run through Monday, Sept 23. Students are encouraged to register, and it is easy for families to send the link out to family and friends asking for donations as students read and track their minutes. Each ELA teacher's code is below.
Our Building Goal is $10,000, and if the goal is reached, Mr. Cobb will be duct-taped to the wall! These funds are used throughout the year to provide special incentives and opportunities for students, such as the Turkey Trot, Winter Carnival, Grizzly Games, Tie-Dye t-shirts, and so much more.
In an effort to involve all students, we will have Read-A-Thon Theme Days as follows:

Character Strong
We are so grateful you are a part of the school community this year. One of the aims at our school is to equip young people for all the realities of today’s world. With that in mind, we have partnered with CharacterStrong - an organization that provides training for educators and social & emotional learning curriculum for students. Their work will focus on 3 main outcomes: increasing a sense of belonging for all students, improving skills that support student well-being, and deepening student engagement in their academics, in their school, and in their community.
This curriculum was created to support school communities as they engage in the work of preparing young people to thrive in the 21st century. The research supports the effectiveness of social & emotional learning in schools to increase student’s academic success and college & career readiness. The lessons focus on developing skills and mindsets around building positive habits, understanding our emotions, and increasing empathy for people and communities who have lived different lives than us. The curriculum helps students think about things they want to improve in their school, their relationships, and their world and then provides tools for them to work individually and in teams to close the gaps they’ve identified.
One of the key parts of nearly every lesson is the “CharacterDare” for students. These are invitations near the end of most lessons to put the content that they are learning into action in the real world. If you ever want to play an active role in the CharacterStrong curricula, simply ask your student about the most recent CharacterDare. Maybe they’ll invite you to try one yourself!
