Think back to your childhood and recall the voices of your teachers and the caring adults in your life. What kinds of words did they use? What tone of voice? Recall how you felt around those voices. As a community of learners, the power of words sets the tone for the learning that takes place. The conversations, tone, and language that we use with each other, with the students, with colleagues, and with community make a difference in the social-emotional and academic learning that takes place in all the spaces we inhabit as learners.

This weekend, connect with your child and emphasize the power we have in the words we choose to use and the way we choose to communicate. Are we showing gratitude and kindness or engaging in gossip and rumors? Is what we are saying helping or hurting our community? How can we model for our students how to assert oneself respectfully? What ways can we use communication to build empathy, understanding, and collaboration? Words can have a lasting impact so we must choose them wisely no matter the position or role we have in our school community.

This is to make sure that we have the most updated phone numbers, emergency contacts, and information on file for your child. It also ensures that we continue to get the funding we need for programs at JROB. Thank you!
