Service & Scholarship Varsity Letter
I think we all agree that our kids do awesome work. Sometimes, that work is attached to our classes and clubs, like the ofrenda that our art classes made for Día de los Muertos. Other times, our students seek out volunteer hours in order to help make our community better. Our team wanted to come up with a way to honor the service work that some of our kids take on, and so we have created a Service & Scholarship Policy which you can read more about here. Students meeting the criteria can now earn an official varsity letter for their volunteerism!
Getting better, every day. - Jake

A Message from Mr. Johnson
Hi Seniors,
I know many of you are in the thick of college applications, or at least thinking about applying. If you haven't already, it's a great time to start looking at colleges that may be right for you. CommonApp is an amazing resource where you can apply to multiple colleges at once. If you need help with college applications, reviewing essays, resumes, or just any questions about post high school life, Dr. Chase and I will be doing "Beyond HS Assistance" during the next Wednesday WIN time.
P.S. During this year, you will feel many emotions ranging from high stress to extreme joy. Don't forget to stop, take a breath, and enjoy the moment. You are all capable of doing great things!
-Mr. Johnson

Ava Field Breaks Steilacoom High School Breaststroke Record
Steilacoom High School is proud to announce that Ava Field has broken the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.54, surpassing the previous record of 1:10.09 set by Alex Ruppe in 2021.
Ava’s journey in swimming began in Korea, where she started in the third grade, and continued
in Kansas with her first club team, the Lancers. After moving to Washington in 2018, she joined
TOSC, then UPAC, and currently competes with the prestigious King Aquatic Club. Despite
joining Steilacoom’s high school swim team in her junior year, Ava has quickly made a name for
herself.
Although she excels in breaststroke, Ava’s favorite stroke is backstroke. Her love for swimming
was sparked at a young age by her fascination with mermaids, and after trying several sports,
swimming was the one that stuck.
Ava’s goals for the season include breaking another school record and coming in first at state in
both of her individual events.
For more information, please contact Tom Bradbury tbradbury@steilacoom.k12.wa.us.
