Dear Parents,
Thank you for all you have done to get us off to such a strong start this year! These first few weeks are really focused on getting to know one another and what to expect from the school year. Some of that is really fun. Students get to share about their favorite things, play games to get to know one another, and spend time just being together and enjoying one another's company. Some of it, however, is not so fun. We do a ton of assessments, go over rules, talk through expectations, go over rules some more, go over expectations some more, etc etc. In total, whether particularly fun or not, all of the work we do these first few weeks in critically important. It lays the foundation for all of the learning and growing ahead of us. Your support helping your students navigate all of this is VERY appreciated!
Speaking of laying that foundation for a successful school year, one of the most important nights of the year is coming up next Thursday the 29th. Curriculum Night is a time we spend with families going over what to expect this school year. Teachers will present information about learning objectives, routines, responsibilities, and resources. Each grade level will present the same information two times to allow parents to attend more than one grade level. The first session will run from 5:00-5:25 and the second session will run from 5:35-6:00. Watch for communication from your teachers with more information. We look forward to seeing everyone there!
It has been great getting to reconnect with all of our returning families and connecting with those joining us this year. We are looking forward to working with all of you to make this year the very best!
Take care,
Stephen

Milk Caps for Moola
I hope you've been saving your Longmont Dairy milk caps all summer! The collection bin is near the front office. Look for our friend Mootilda, ready to take your clean caps and rings off your glass bottles. No other items/trash, please, and NO need to scrub, but a quick rinse is appreciated. Bag them or send them loose! This is a great and easy fundraiser for the school, each cap earns us five cents!

Marker Recycling Program
As you are going through old school supplies from last year, please collect up any dried out pens or markers (highlighters and dry erase are fine too!), even glue sticks! Staples will take these for recycling, and we can keep them out of the landfills. You can find boxes near the front office, in the pods, or in the art room. Thanks for your help making Blue Mountain a little greener!

From the Health Office
Please remember to pack a change of clothes for your student in their backpack! Accidents do happen and it is easiest if there is a familiar change of clothes to use. Soiled clothes will come home in a plastic bag in your student's backpack.

Gifted and Talented Referrals
Each year, schools in St. Vrain Valley School District complete a process to identify students who demonstrate exceptional ability or performance in one or more academic areas and may, therefore, qualify for Gifted/Talented educational services. These students usually perform at least two years above grade level in their strength area(s), and they require additional academic challenges in order to support their continued educational growth and progress. In addition, they usually demonstrate characteristics of unique creativity and high motivation in their strength areas.
Referrals are open through the month of September and will close on the last day of the month. Referrals after that date will be addressed on a case by case basis. Completing a referral guarantees a review of the student profile to determine if testing is recommended for the student. The process for identification requires a body of evidence and often takes place throughout the school year.
The process takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.
If your child is already identified, you do not need to fill out this form unless you would like them looked at for a different subject. Thank you!
Student Code of Conduct - PARENTS, please sign!
Every year, St. Vrain Valley Schools produces an up-to-date version of the Code of Conduct for students and families to review. This important document guides students and school staff on what expectations for school conduct and the consequences for behaviors that fall outside of those expectations. It is important that families review this information every year and acknowledge their receipt and understanding of this document.
To this end, please click here to access an electronic version of the Code of Conduct for the current school year. After you have reviewed this information, all families must sign an electronic acknowledgement that they have received, read, and understand the information contained, including the Annual Notification to Parents/Guardians; Behavioral Code of Conduct; Rights and Responsibilities of Students and Parents; and Board of Education Policies book. To sign your electronic acknowledgement, please follow the steps described here.
If you need a paper copy to sign, please go to the Front Office.
Superintendent's Town Hall Meetings
St. Vrain Valley Schools invites parents, teachers, staff, and community members to join Superintendent, Dr. Don Haddad, for one of our upcoming Superintendent Town Hall meetings. These annual open forums in each of our geographic areas provide an opportunity for Dr. Haddad and other district leaders to listen to our community’s questions and suggestions, share our many successes, and discuss our bold vision for the future.
