Here's what's happening at Spring Lake:

We hope you are all having a wonderful summer and staying safe out there. Our summer Bridges program is underway and we have loved having students back in the school. As a reminder to those participating, the last day of class is Thursday, July 9th. Chromebooks are due that day so we can get them cleaned and ready for school in August.


We never got the chance in May to bid farewell to teachers who retired or moved on to different assignments at other schools. They have each written a little note for our school community for this newsletter and will be sorely missed (see below).


We are excited to welcome new staff members including a new 2nd and 5th grade teacher as well as a new facilitator. You can read highlights about each of them below.


Watch for registration emails coming your way. Registration opens July 13th!


Many parents have been reaching out asking about what I'm hearing regarding coming back to school in August. As you know, things can change at a moments notice, but right now we are planning to have every child at school every day and that school will resume as scheduled on August 19th. Of course, school will look a little different than it did in the past and we are working tirelessly to create safety standards and protocols that will allow us to teach students in school, face-to-face (with social distancing of course!) as safely as possible. We will continue to proceed under the direction of the school board, state leaders and the Utah County Health Department.


Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing information with you regarding a safe reopening, options for parents who are feeling reluctant to return and plans to support students in the coming year both socially, emotionally and academically. My goal is to make our return fun, positive and uplifting for students. I'm thinking 2021 just might be the best year ever! Check our website and your email for upcoming information.

Online Registration Opens July 13th!

Please watch your email inbox over the coming weeks for information that will be rolled out from the district office regarding REGISTRATION which opens on July 13th.


This year, registration will be done completely online. Parents can even upload documents such as birth certificates and immunization records directly to the system and register multiple children at one time. We are hoping our new system will be less cumbersome for parents than in the past.


If your student is returning to Spring Lake, we already have their information rolled over, so you will easily be able to get on and register. If you have other children attending Spring Lake but need to add an incoming kindergarten student, you can easily add them (and upload their documents) on your family's main home screen.


If you are not feeling tech savvy, don't have access to a device, or need additional help getting your files uploaded, you can come in to the school M-TH between 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM any time after July 13th. Please do not come in before that date as we will not have access to the system yet.


***PLEASE NOTE: ALL STEPS OF THE REGISTRATION PROCESS MUST BE COMPLETE BEFORE WE CAN ASSIGN YOUR CHILD TO A CLASS AND TEACHER. IF YOU ARE ENROLLING A STUDENT FOR THE FIRST TIME, YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS WHICH WILL BE VERIFIED BY SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION AND DISTRICT PERSONNEL AFTER THEY ARE UPLOADED:


1) 2 PROOF OF RESIDENCY DOCUMENTS OR ACCEPTANCE LETTER FOR OPEN ENROLLMENT.


2) OFFICIAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE


3) COMPLETE IMMUNIZATION RECORD

Mariel Dean (Mt. Nebo Middle School)

I have loved teaching at Spring Lake for the last 3 years. I am so sad to be leaving but excited to try something new at Mt. Nebo Middle School. The students at Spring Lake are very special and I feel so lucky to have been able to teach a few of them. For two years my students have said the same moto each day. To my students, please do not ever forget: "I am somebody. I was somebody when I came. I will be an even better somebody when I leave. I am powerful and strong. I deserve the education that I get here. I have things to do, people to impress and places to go." You are going to go on to do amazing things and I am so proud of you!

Denise Ray (Mt. Nebo Middle School)

As I leave Spring Lake with tears in my eyes, I will never forget the experiences that I have learned from the children, parents, and faculty. I have shared 17 of my 19 years of my career at Spring Lake Elementary and have taught 509 children. I have been coached and molded into the teacher I am today by three wonderful principals whom I will never forget! I have learned from faculty, parents and children what an impact a teacher can make in a child’s life. I have great memories here and will continue to see these children at Mt. Nebo Middle School. I will miss Spring Lake, but once a Hawk, ALWAYS a Hawk!!

Katie Miller (Valley View Middle School)

I have had the pleasure of teaching at Spring Lake for the last 3 years. Not only have I had the experience of teaching awesome students, but I've had the pleasure of working with some of the best teachers & staff. I’m sad to be leaving Spring Lake, but excited to now be teaching 6th grade science at Valley View Middle School in Salem. I will never forget to S.O.A.R. Once a hawk, always a hawk!

Mrs. Morgan (Kindergarten Barnett Elementary)

I have absolutely loved the opportunity to teach 4th grade at Spring Lake this year! The administration and staff at this school are amazing, I am so sad to be leaving. I want my students to know how much I love and adore them, and if I could leave by saying one final thing to them, it would be "You are capable of doing and achieving anything you set your mind to!" The memories and experiences that have come from this year are those that I will hold forever in my heart, and they will always have special meaning to me. To my students; I have no doubt that you will rock the socks right off of 5th grade! Always try your best, build new friendships, and remember that failures are one step closer to successes! Thank you for an amazing year, 2019-2020 is a year I will never forget!

Kaylee Pehrson (Mt. Nebo Middle School)

Emotions are mixed as I prepare to transfer to another school, and begin a new chapter in my career. Spring Lake Elementary will always hold an important place in my heart. I appreciate the faculty, staff and the amazing parents who made teaching here wonderful. The friendships I have made in this school community will always be cherished.

To the kids who have changed my life, THANK YOU. I have all of your names engraved in my mind, your laughs still echo in my ears, your determination will always make me proud and you will always hold a special place in my heart. My kids, each one of you have made me a better person and always brought a special light into my life. Being your teacher, made my job not just one I am honored to have, but one that I love! I hope to see you all again at Mt. Nebo Middle School or in passing by around town. Always remember that YOU MATTER to me!

Lesa Taylor (2nd Grade Spanish Oaks Elementary)

I have LOVED my first graders at Spring Lake this year. They are amazing, loving, and have so many talents. I have enjoyed watching them grow and blossom into readers and kind people. They have remarkable parents who have done a great job transitioning to teachers the past couple of months. Thank you for sharing your kids with me. They are incredible and I know that they will grow up to do outstanding things in the future. Unfortunately, there are low numbers in the upcoming first grade class and so we are losing a teacher position. Because I am the newest teacher at Spring Lake, I will be leaving and teaching at Spanish Oaks Elementary in 2nd grade. I will greatly miss the staff, parents, and students at Spring Lake Elementary. You will forever have a piece of my heart.

Ken & Kathy Shaw - RETIRING IN IDAHO!

Mr. & Mrs. Shaw will be sorely missed at Spring Lake Elementary but we are excited for them to move on to a new chapter in their lives. They are officially retired, have built a home in Idaho and moved to be closer to family and grandchildren. We will miss their dedication, their daily presence in all of their lives and the sweet influence they had on our entire school community. We all want to be like Ken and Kathy when we grow up. We thank them for their amazing service to the students and staff of Spring Lake!

Necia Albrecht (Brigham Young University - Clinical Faculty)

Mrs. Albrecht will be teaching and supervising new teachers at Brigham Young University next year. She is also hoping to begin her Masters Degree in Counseling and Psychology. She has left her mark on the hearts of all children and staff at Spring Lake and will never be forgotten. We will miss her humor, kindness, and friendship. We wish her all the best in her new adventures at BYU!
