Pirates Post
Week of November 22nd
Message from Principal Drew...
Parents this is a reminder that we only have two days of school this week on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday will be a teacher workday and Thursday and Friday will be taken off in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. As we approach Thanksgiving on Thursday I want to thank you for trusting the staff at PCHS to care for and educate your children. We do not take this trust lightly. We are thankful for each and every student and their families and we hope that each of you are able to take time and reflect on the people and things in your life that you are thankful for during the Thanksgiving holiday.
Congratulations to our football team on a fantastic season. The Pirates advanced to the third round of the playoffs this past week and competed all season with determination, class, and sportsmanship. A special thank you as well to our cheerleaders who were there at every game and not only supported the team but demonstrated true school spirit and pride throughout the season. Great job done by both teams.
Our swim team had a successful start to their season this past week while competing in their first two meets. We had several outstanding performances highlighted by great swims by Katherine Howell, Ian Ford, and Joleigh Connor. Good luck in the pool this season to all of our swim team members.
A special highlight this week is Mrs. Sutton and Mrs. Thomas and the students in the OCS classroom. These students began an entrepreneurial adventure this week called PQ Perk. This small start up provides a beverage and light food item opportunity to our staff three days a week. The students are learning how to budget, prepare items for delivery, schedule deliveries, and provide excellent customer service.
We have a short week but we still have lots to accomplish this week. Students in Biology and Math 1 classes will be taking a NC Check-in test this week. Parents please encourage your student to take their time and do their very best on these tests. The outcomes of these tests will help determine our exam prep in each area. Students should get a good night's sleep and eat breakfast before each day of school to be prepared to do their best on each test.
Our JV girls basketball team will open their season on Tuesday with a game at Albemarle School at 4:30. Good luck to our JV girls basketball team.
The final day for men's basketball tryouts will be Monday afternoon from 5 to 7 PM in the gym at PCHS. All players must wear a mask at all times in the gym and should be dressed and ready in the hallway by Coach Woodley's office by 4:45 PM if they wish to tryout. Players are also encouraged to bring their own water bottle or drink to practice each day.
Any Junior or Senior interested in serving on the Prom committee should meet in Mrs. Russell's room on Monday during WIN time. This will begin the planning process for our annual Prom in the Spring.
Finally, the FFA will sponsor this year's Snow Ball Winter Semi-Formal. The dance will be on January 28th. Tickets will go on sale to Seniors and Juniors on December 29th during all lunches and then to all students on December 7th during all lunches. The cost of a ticket is $15 per person. Space will be limited so get your tickets early. See Mrs. Russell or Mrs. Perry if you have any questions.
We have two full weeks of school left until final exams. Students need to get any missing work completed as soon as possible and begin reviewing now for their final exams. We have had a good semester so far. Let's finish strong.
