Maple Messenger
April Edition
Principal's Corner
I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter break! I was glad the weather cooperated a little so our little ones could get outside and play!
We had 38 students attend kindergarten preregistration. This is a good start to our fall kindergarten class!
I want to express my gratitude for our teachers and staff at Maple Grade School. They have done an amazing job of keeping students engaged, learning and excited about school each day during this crazy year. We are blessed to have such a hardworking group of individuals. I want to wish them all a Happy Teacher Appreciation Week.
Have a wonderful rest of the year!
Kind Regards,
Suzi Root, Principal Maple Grade School

The Why Behind Math
The Impacts of Tardies
Maple has been focused on reducing our numbers of tardies this year. We rely on you, our parents, to assist us in this goal. Why do we focus on reducing tardies?
- So far this year Maple students have lost 159 hours, or nearly 23 school days of instruction due to tardies!
- The most crucial learning hours of a school day are the morning hours because they are when students are most attentive.
- Students are a distraction when they are late to class.
- Students who are frequently tardy have lower grade point averages and lower scores on standardized tests.
- Students who are tardy often develop a tardiness pattern that carries over into adulthood.
What can you do to help your child arrive on time for school and be ready to learn?
- Pack backpacks and lunchboxes the night before
- Lay clothes out ahead of time
- Set up a "last stop" area. Set up an area in the house to keep backpacks, shoes, homework, coats, etc. This will prevent that last minute search for items.
- Select a family song to play at the same time each day. This cues everyone that it is almost time to leave.
- Wake up earlier and leave the house earlier. Allowing 5-10 extra minutes can make for a calmer start to your day.
