Hello Highland Families!
Congratulations to the 2025 graduating class from Highland Academy Charter School! It was an honor to recognize their hard work and dedication. Thank you to all that were able to share in this celebration. We wish our graduates the best of luck wherever their journey takes them next!
Please take a look below at the schedule for the final 3 days of school.
- Monday, May 19th - Intensives (early release at 2:00)
- Tuesday, May 20th - MIT Competition (regular release at 3:00)
- Wednesday, May 21st - Assembly and Field Day (early release at 2:00)
On the last day of school (Wednesday, May 21st), we will be walking to Nunaka Valley Park for our end of the year field day. We will be leaving Highland around 10:15, and will start walking back to school at 1:30. If you'd like to pick your child up early, you may do so at Nunaka Valley Park anytime before 1:30. Please ensure you sign them out with their advisor or an administrator. All students will be released from Highland at 2:00.
Students should wear sturdy athletic shoes, bring a water bottle, and come prepared for the weather. Student Leadership is planning a variety of activities and whole group games. Our PTSO will provide hot dogs and condiments. We are asking that students bring something from the list below, based on their Advisory.
- Mr. Klauschie & Ms. Spalla - Paper plates, napkins, or forks
- Ms. Daugherty, Ms. Priebs & Mr. Rose - Chips, pretzels, popcorn
- Mr. Robinson, Ms. Cunningham & Mr. Kellerby - Dessert (cookies, brownies, cupcakes)
- Ms. Lee, Ms. Lighty & Mr. Johnson - Fruits and veggies
If you are interested in chaperoning, please call 907-742-1700 to sign up. All chaperones must complete a volunteer application with the district. We appreciate your time!
May is Mental Health Awareness month and while it is important to take care of your mental health all of the time, the district will be providing additional information and resources throughout the month. Visit the Mental Health & Student Support website for more information on family and district resources.
Additionally, the Anchorage School District has partnered with the Cook Center for Human Connection and its Mental Health Resource Center. ParentGuidance.org is a website developed to provide parents, guardians, and caregivers with resources from clinicians and experts who offer guidance around issues related to the most common challenges parents face today: anxiety, social media use, school avoidance, bullying, and more. ASD parents have access to the On-Demand Courses and Ask a Therapist resources. ASD does not currently participate in the Mental Health Series or Parent Coaching.
Support your health and join Highland's 100 Miles in May team "Highland Phoenix". Throughout the month of May, track your miles - walking, biking, yard work, hiking, etc. It all counts! Students that participate should talk to their advisor about earning PSS standards. Check out the flyer below for registration information.
Feel free to reach out with any questions. Have a great weekend!

Reporting Absences and Tardies
When your child is absent or tardy, please contact the school as soon as possible. The best way to report an absence is through Q/ParentConnect. You can also call the front office (907) 742-1700.
Cell Phone Policy
As a reminder, Highland implemented a revised cell phone or headphone/earbud policy last semester. Students are expected to have their earbuds/headphones put away and cell phones turned off and out of sight during class and passing time. They are permitted to use their device before school, during lunch, and after school. If a student has their cell phone or earbuds/headphones out in class or during passing time, regardless of the reason, teachers will confiscate the device to be stored at the front office for the rest of the school day.
Activity Fee
We request that all families pay a $150 supply and activity for the school year through Q/ParentConnection. These funds help pay for intensives, student-led activities, class sets, and more. If this is a hardship, or you would rather donate your time, we would be happy to work with you.
