Week In Review and A Look Ahead
October 18, 2024
Notes from the Principal
Our 6th graders enjoyed our Field Trip to Hawk Mountain on Thursday and Friday. I look forward to sharing some pictures with you next week. Thank you to our teachers and families for making this event run smoothly.
As part of our ongoing efforts to foster a positive school environment, our 6th grade students came together to brighten up our MSE sidewalks with vibrant colors and uplifting messages on Wednesday. Armed with colorful chalk and a lot of enthusiasm, students worked to "chalk the walk" with motivational sayings and encouraging words. It was wonderful to see the creativity and teamwork on display as students took pride in crafting messages to support one another. This team-building experience left the 6th grade students feeling more connected to each other and more aware of how their actions can have a positive impact on others in our school community. Please enjoy the picutres below!

Halloween Dance
Student Council is hosting the Halloween Dance on Friday, October 25th. The dance will be at MSE from 7-9 PM. The cost of the dance is $5. All students attending the dance MUST pre-pay for the dance during lunch. Students will not be permitted to pay when they get to the dance. Students will need to present their student ID when paying as well as when entering the dance. Those without an ID will be able to purchase a ticket after the rest of the students go through the line. Students will be able to pay for the dance during lunch on one of the following days:
- Wednesday, October 23rd
- Thursday, October 24th
- Friday, October 25th
We will be following our regular school dress code for the dance (this includes no hats, sunglasses, or face paint). However, students may choose to wear a costume. Costumes are optional and must still follow the school dress code. All costumes must be school appropriate and may not include any weapons or full face masks. Costumes may not be gory or gruesome. Inflatable costumes are not permitted. Students who choose to wear a costume will be entered into our costume contest that will be judged by the dance chaperones. Students can win best costume for one of the following categories: Best Group, Best Duo, Funniest, or Most Creative.
Students will be able to have their picture taken with their friends at the dance. Pictures cost $1 for each person who wants a copy of the picture.
Please refer to pages 44 and 51 in the student handbook for attendance at extracurricular events and dance expectations.

Student Support Groups
Boyertown’s Student Assistance Program offers a wide variety of psycho-educational support groups to help students learn to cope effectively with many common barriers to their educational success. These are OPTIONAL curriculum-based and skill-building groups that allow students to gain strength and understanding in a confidential setting from peers and provides them with the tools necessary to thrive despite challenges.
Groups typically last for 30 minutes in duration, once a week, for about eight weeks. The groups are facilitated by a Student Assistance Program Specialist from Caron Treatment Centers, Mrs. Briana Fretz. These groups do require parent/ guardian permission before students can attend. If students are interested, they will have the opportunity starting Oct. 1st to complete an interest survey in their REACH google classroom. If you have any questions or would like to see your child participate in an upcoming group, please reach out to the counseling office.

Library Updates
In the Library
As of Thursday afternoon, the library has checked out over 5,000 items. We have an impressive collection of almost 25,000 items, including nearly 7,000 fiction books and over 800 graphic novels. It's been wonderful to see our students engaged with these materials.
But that's not all. We are more than just books! We have four microscopes that students can check out, as well as 11 chess sets and 20 craft kits for knitting, crocheting, hat looms, and scarf looms. The best part is that the students can keep the yarn they use, and we're always happy to accept yarn donations. Together, we're creating a vibrant and enriching learning environment for our students. If you have questions about the programs or donations, please email our librarian, Mrs. Mento. KMento@boyertownasd.org
Due Dates
Books are checked out for two weeks. They can be renewed multiple times as long as another student is not waiting. Due date cards are in the back of books.
