Happy Friday, Everitt families!
If you will indulge me a few moments to reflect, I would like to share some thoughts about the last three years. This class of 8th graders was my first class to see go all of the way through Everitt as this was my third year as principal of Everitt. My first year happened without any time to prepare. An assistant principal at Everitt at the time, I was offered an interim position as our principal took a position in another district right before school started. Like our 6th graders that year, I came in nervous and unsure of what to expect. I had never been a principal before just as they had never been middle schoolers before. One of the first things I did as principal was to hire the wonderful Katie Piane to replace me as AP. What a gift Katie has been! We grew up together, Katie, the middle school class of 2024, and me, over these three years. As Rhys and Liam pointed out in their Continuation speech, we grew in maturity, learning from the mistakes we made and discovering who we were along the way. That is the best thing about middle school. Don't get me wrong, there are lots of great things about working with middle school students -- their sense of humor, their brilliance, and their energy to name a few. But my favorite thing is watching them become who they are and getting to be a small part of that. Every class is special, of course, but this class has a special place in my heart because they are my first class and I have been incredibly blessed by doing these last three years together. Next year, Katie moves into an assistant principal position in Evergreen which will allow her to work closer to her home and to be with two of her wonderful children. And our 8th graders move on to high school. We will miss all of you and you will always be a part of us.
Below you will find photos from our last assembly, the 8th grade Elitch's field trip, 8th grade Continuation, award ceremonies and the last day of school for 6th and 7th graders. It has been a wonderful week of celebration and fun events. Thank you to our PTA for providing cake for Continuation and our wonderful 7th grade parents for serving it.
Final grades will be posted by the end of the day on Tuesday. We will also send an email to families of all students who made the honor roll this semester.
This will be our final newsletter of the school year. You will hear from us again in July with information about Camp Everitt and registration for the new school year. If you are interested in Camp Everitt for your incoming 6th grader, please keep August 5th - August 7th open. Camp Everitt is a wonderful way for your child to get to know some other 6th graders before the year begins. We are very excited to get to know your children and your family!
Thank you to the wonderful Debbie Dardano for putting the newsletter together each week.
Thank you for supporting and believing in your neighborhood school. It is our privilege to partner with you!

Help us Preserve Camp Everitt: A PTA task force met earlier this week to discuss how best to preserve Camp Everitt and have a plan to make sure it is available for incoming 6th graders this summer and ongoing. Our next steps will be looking for adult volunteers for 1 or 3 days (likely early August) as well as some High School kids. In addition we will be looking for a handful of local businesses as sponsors. If you are interested in volunteering or have/know of a business who might be interested in learning more please e-mail us at EverittPTA@gmail.com thank you!
