BORMAN BLAST
SEPTEMBER 2024 FAMILY NEWSLETTER
WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING?
Hello Families! I hope you had a great Labor Day weekend and Down-Day. Welcome to our new families and students that have arrived after the first week of school, and welcome to Tucson! August flew right by and went very smoothly. This was one of the best openings of the school year I have seen, so thank you all for your cooperation and communication! Teachers and students are well into routines, procedures, assessments, and curriculum! We are now already half-way through the first quarter and Parent teacher conferences will be coming up in 2.5 weeks. MS students will have mid-term grades posted as well.
For fall conferences, you're student's teacher will be reaching out to you to schedule. Teachers will schedule a conference with all families. For students in grades K-3, they will also be sharing with you some literacy data on your student and how that affects their Arizona Move On When Reading status. I sent all K-3 families an email, with the attached entry letter, explaining that state law a few weeks ago.
We have begun the process to become the first Purple Star School in Tucson, which will involve some updates to our school website, and meeting other school requirements for student and family support. Many of which we have in place already.
Please remind your student to be: Responsible, Respectful, Safe, and Kind!
Thank you,
Mr. Huss - Principal

Safe Technology Use
A community member suggested that we include a safe technology use section in our family newsletter. While we do teach safe technology practices with our middle school students in technology class(since students take their school laptops home and typically have more access to personal technology), we also want to offer some resources for families with students of any age. For now, I will just share a link to Common Sense Media parent resources. In the future I may share more specific ideas.

Student Drop-off/School Start and End Times/Traffic
Please remember, school starts at 8:20. Please do not drop your students off before 7:45 as we have no campus monitors on site until that time. Students that are dropped off before this are unsupervised and we cannot be responsible for something that might happen.
On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, school ends at 2:30 for K-5 and 3:15 for 6-8. On Wednesday, school ends one hour earlier for teacher PD and planning. Please pick your students up promptly as our monitors leave soon after school ends each day.
Please be patient when dropping off or picking up your student/s in the round-about. Pull forward as far as you can and have your child exit or enter the vehicle as quickly as possible. If you are stuck in traffic along Lightning Drive, please do not drive down the opposite lane to go around. The jam usually moves along in a few minutes. Also, please do not park in the staff parking lot unless you have business in the front office. There is plenty of parking in the dirt outside of the staff lot and across the street.
