Sunset Valley's Parent Newsletter | Week of October 21st
From Mr. Nunn
I hope this message finds you well! This week, students had the opportunity to use their Panther Bucks to shop at our Panther P.R.I.D.E. store. Additionally, many students were recognized at their grade level's Panther P.R.I.D.E. Rallies on Thursday! I get to see students exemplify the aspects of P.R.I.D.E. everyday, so it was great to see them recognized for their hard work! I hope they're as proud of themselves as I am of them!
Enjoy Fall Break with your families, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday, October 21!
Alternative Meals for Lunch Balances Over $25
Beginning Monday, October 21, 2024, Keller ISD will begin providing an alternative meal offering for students with unpaid lunch balances greater than $25.
Keller ISD schools want to first ensure that all students have access to nutritious meals during school hours regardless of financial circumstances, while also addressing costly negative balances that may be accrued. Once a student’s meal account reaches or exceeds a negative balance of $25, the school cafeteria will provide an alternative meal until the negative balance is resolved.
For all grade levels, the breakfast entree will be a SunButter and jelly sandwich and the lunch entree will be a turkey and cheese sandwich. Both meals will be served with the fresh fruit of the day, with the option of selecting white or chocolate milk, though selecting milk is optional. The meal is intended to be nutritionally balanced and meets the dietary guidelines set forth by the Texas Department of Agriculture and the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program.
Before a student receives the alternative meal, parents or guardians will be notified in writing as soon as their account becomes delinquent. Campus cashiers will also proactively but discreetly notify students when their account is getting close to the $25 negative balance threshold. Please note that the negative balance threshold is calculated per student and not per family or household.
Upon reaching the $25 negative balance threshold, parents or guardians will be informed that their student will receive an alternative meal until the balance is resolved. Cafeteria and school employees will be trained to handle these situations as discreetly as possible.
Cash and check payments can be made at any cafeteria during mealtimes. If you wish to pay by card, then you may pay online at www.schoolcafe.com/KELLERISD.
If your circumstances have changed and you feel that your household may qualify for free or reduced meal prices, you may fill out a paper application at your school or apply online at www.schoolcafe.com/KELLERISD.
