TECHNOLOGY CAMPUS CHRONICLE
May 3rd 2024
PRINCIPAL CORNER
Dear OSES families,
Teacher Appreciation Week is from Monday, May 6th to Friday, May 10th. Our PVO has coordinated a variety of events for the teachers to ensure it’s a special week. As a parent, please take a few moments to show your thankfulness; many of you do already. Students will have the opportunity to thank their teachers all week, as we have done in the past, a week of suggested themes will be sent soon. Please remember while it is Teacher Appreciation Week, it’s a time to be thankful for all staff. There are over 80 staff members that contribute to your students daily school life.
On May 14th, we will recognize our PVO members. Did you know the majority of school events and extra-curricular activities outside of clubs are PVO driven? This includes Pep Rallies, STEM Nights, Hispanic Night, International Night, to just name a few. They are instrumental in providing funding that supports every student and staff member at OSES.
Running a school is hard work, running a high performing school is even harder. Lets thank the people who make it happen!
Principal.
Michael Singleton

What an amazing week it has been! Our students are working on open and closed syllables as they practice handwriting and reading. In Social Studies we are learning what we as humans need over what we want. In Science we are learning about the similarities and differences in animals and plants. Our students enjoyed working together to identify closed and open syllabus around the campus. Our class is super excited to see what we are going to learn in the following weeks to come!
FIRST
Quarterman
This week in first grade, students have been reviewing for the upcoming FAST testing. Students are both excited and a bit nervous so, families, please continue to encourage them. They have been working hard all year and teachers are also excited with anticipation to see the growth!
Students made posters for their testing buddies to encourage them. And they also received posters of encouragement.
At the pep rally, students were celebrated and encouraged. They were able to release some energy and stress.
Community building has been a focus in Mrs. Quarterman’s class where we spend a few minutes at the beginning of the day to greet each other, sometimes share our adventures, and discuss the agenda for the day.
Also, some first grade teachers are requesting special encouraging messages for their students from parents. Please contact your child’s teacher for more informations.
Field Day is Monday, May 20th for first grade. Each class will wear a different color shirt to show unity.
Bayno – orange
DiNuzzo – red
Keene – purple
Nickerson – yellow
Quarterman – orange
Vancol – tie dye
SECOND
Coy
2nd grade will be taking their FAST-reading assessment on Tuesday morning. Please make sure all students get plenty of rest, have a good breakfast, and are at school by 8:30. We start testing at 8:30. A couple great resources to review for the weekend would be Study Island and IXL . Students have been rocking their reviews this week.
Ms. Coy is asking for parents from her class to write two encouraging notes to be given to the students before testing each session. You can handwrite these notes or email them to me.
The students in Ms. Coy's class are starting an animal research project to study habitats and animal needs. The students are each picking an animal to research. Most of the research will be coming the San Digeo Zoo in case you would like to work on this at home to collect the research. We are taking a short break from the research this week and early next week due to review and testing but will begin again after the reading portion of the test.
Sonn
Second graders have had a wonderful month. They really enjoyed the exciting end-of-the-year trip to SeaWorld.
This week, students enjoyed a special day on the field for our STAR test Pep Rally. Staff and volunteers lined the track, cheering on our students as they excitedly made their way around the field.
Our class enjoyed making a motivational poster for our testing buddy, Mr. Leighvard's fifth-grade classroom.
Next week starts the end of year STAR test for second graders on Tuesday morning. Reading test on May 7th and Math on May 14th. Please ensure your child gets a good night's sleep and make sure they have a positive, happy morning on Tuesday. Remind them that they have worked hard all year and now can relax and show what they know.
Thanks parents and families for all your support this year of our classroom and of your child's education. It really does take a village and I am happy to be in it with you! It has truly been a wonderful year and I wish you and your family the very best as we wrap up the year!
THIRD

Last week a few fifth graders had the opportunity to culminate a series of workshops with a visit to 4Roots Farm, our neighbor right up the road! At the farm the students learned about sustainability, the science of agriculture, how WriggleBrew is made, and ways to conserve our resources. 4Roots Farm will be open to the public in a few months and has great plans to continue growing. It is hard to believe that we are in the last month of the school year. Even though the end is in sight, now is the time to strive for excellence. Perseverance is the OSES character trait for the month of May. Perseverance is defined as persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. Also demonstrating tenacity, determination or resolve in accomplishing a task.
Dinner/Car Discussions:
• Have each family member explain how he/she has shown perseverance.
• Have family members share about times when they did not show perseverance.
• Have family members explain some of the benefits of showing perseverance
