Clover Bar Information
Trick or Treat!
With Halloween coming up, we have some fun planned for the event. We will run an early dismissal day schedule so that we can have a costume parade and competition in the last hour of the day. Last year about 80% of our students dressed up and we are hoping for even more this year! We have some fantastic grade 9 Leadership students who are helping to plan the day for our students. A couple of reminders:
- Costumes should be age appropriate and still meet the expectations of a learning environment.
- Costumes need to be able to able to fit in the halls and our classrooms.
- Please don't send students with any pretend (or real) weapons with their costume.
Grade 9 - Take our Kids to Work!
One of the school goals at Clover Bar is "Intentional focus on supporting students to develop and recognize how their student learning is building transferrable skills that will benefit their life outside of school." This happens in a variety of ways in every class with daily work, assessments, working with others, and the hands on skills they learn. It also includes having strong transition plans for our students that we communicate the why and how with them on, clear expectations on attendance, encouraging self-advocacy through student voice, and teaching and promoting regulation strategies.
For our grade 9's specifically, we expose students to the 'World of Work' with the 'Take Your Kid to Work Day' initiative on November 6. Now is a great time to start thinking about placements for your grade 9 student. We have sent a Permission Click home along with more details. Feel free to reach out with any questions.

WIN A STUDENT EXPERIENCE AT THE INVICTUS GAMES
As we lead into Remembrance Day, we take the time to acknowledge the courage and sacrifice of those who served their country, on and off the battlefield. This year, ATCO is offering a new way for Alberta students to share their feelings about the heroes who make up our Armed Forces and Veteran communities.
ATCO is inviting Alberta students in grades 4 through 9 to enter a creative composition on WHY MILITARY MATTERS for a chance to win one of 10 trips for two (student and parent/legal guardian) to attend the Invictus Games in Vancouver from February 15-17, 2025.
Competition runs from October 15 – November 11, 2024.
Submit Your Entry online and learn more at www.atco.com/IG25contest
Creative Composition instructions:
Each creative composition should describe Why Military Matters? (between 150 – 650 words). The composition must be relevant to the theme, whether there is a personal connection, an understanding of the importance of the military in Canada or the need to support our military veterans.
The composition can either be completed in the form of a short essay, poem, song or video. Compositions should be interesting, creative, inspirational or heartwarming.
Eligible entries will be judged on the content of the composition. Judging criteria will include:
- Interpretation: How well the theme “Why Military Matters” is interpreted
- Creativity: How original the theme “Why Military Matters” is depicted
- Composition: The overall design and quality of the composition
- Emotional impact: Whether the piece evokes emotion
All compositions must be original and written in English to be considered valid for the ATCO IG25 Student Competition.
