For the Week of May 5, 2025
Dear Families,
This week is TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK! Just a reminder, of a few ways you can show your appreciation:
Handwritten Notes: Encourage your child to write a heartfelt note or draw a picture expressing their gratitude for their teacher's hard work and support.
Classroom Supplies: Consider donating classroom supplies such as tissues, markers, or books to help lighten the load for our teachers.
Small Tokens of Appreciation: A small token of appreciation, such as a handwritten card, a bouquet of flowers, or a homemade treat, can go a long way in showing gratitude.
Social Media Shout-outs: Share your appreciation for our teachers on social media using #TeacherAppreciationWeek and tagging our school. Your kind words will undoubtedly brighten their day!
Thank you for joining us in recognizing and appreciating our phenomenal teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week!

Elementary Spring Sing
The Elementary Spring Sing will be this Thursday, May 8 at 2 pm in the HS gym. All family members coming to watch the program can enter the HS building at the gym doors, beginning at 1:30 pm. High school and middle school siblings will need to be signed out at the high school office by a parent to attend the program. All elementary students will be walked back to the elementary school and normal end of day procedures will be followed. Please let the office know in advance if your child will be picked up on Thursday instead of riding the bus home.
CACC Science Fair
The Calhoun Intermediate School District’s Calhoun Area Career Center (CACC) Education Academy students hosted a Science Fair at Tekonsha Community Schools today! The CACC students offered a menu of hands-on science experiments throughout the day to Tekonsha’s elementary and middle school students. They were also joined by “Mr. Paul” Rheaume, a self-proclaimed lover of science and instructor of lifelong learning courses at Kellogg Community
College.
The Education Academy program at CACC prepares both juniors and seniors – Teacher Cadets – for the field of education after high school. The teacher cadets learn about the systems and instructional strategies in the field of education, and have real life experiences within local school classrooms throughout the year. The program also offers college credits that can transfer to colleges and universities in pursuit of a teaching degree.
Stephanie Barron, the Education Academy Instructor at CACC, who was herself an Education Academy Teacher Cadet and graduate of Battle Creek Central, said the event has been taking place for nearly 15 years and has recently been expanded to bring the program to more schools in the area.
The Science Fair provides an excellent learning opportunity for the teacher cadets. They help orchestrate the event, aiding in creating the materials necessary for each science station. Through the process of planning for and implementing the science fair, the students have an opportunity to learn more about how to be a teacher and how to make their lessons fun for the younger students.
Dylan Griffith, Tekonsha Senior and 2nd year Education Academy student said, "I am so grateful to be able to bring this amazing experience to my community."
Tekonsha’s students transitioned through six stations featuring hands-on activities designed to show students that science can be fun. The stations included everything from building volcanoes to riding a homemade hoverboard.
Preston Pombier, Tekonsha Senior and 2nd year Education Academy student said, "I think it's an amazing opportunity. It feels really good to bring something like this to our town. I am really excited to use the skills I've learned at the CACC back to my home school. It is going to be a very good experience not just for us, but for the kids too!"
“We are so excited to bring this experience to Tekonsha,” said Barron. “It is wonderful for our teacher cadet students to be engaged in teaching the younger students and to see the enthusiasm for science that they are sharing with each other.”
Seniors Sign to Continue Athletics in College!
Two Tekonsha seniors celebrated their signing on Thursday, May 1st to signify their commitment to continue athletics in college! Senior Reagan Henry will be throwing for the University of Olivet’s Track and Field team. She was joined by her parents, Roy and Aryn Henry, and her former track coach, Mr. Tony Bowling, who also happens to be her grandfather! Senior Chloe Smith will be cheering on the Aquinas College Cheer team. She was joined by her mother, Rebecca Smith, and her cheer coach Mrs. Michele Stuart.
Senior Spotlight
We are in the final weeks of school for our seniors, so we want to honor them! We will be featuring a handful of seniors each week to recognize and celebrate all of their accomplishments!
Rahjah Maysonet
Rahjah Maysonet is the son of Raul and Carrie Maysonet. Rahjah has attended Tekonsha Schools for two years. Rahjah selected Mrs. Ashley Hall as his most influential teacher. He commented “She’s amazing. She doesn’t just teach us music, she supports us in our learning.” During high school, Rahjah attended CACC and the Education Academy and was involved with baseball, band, and robotics. After graduation, Rahjah plans to attend Kellogg Community College, then transfer to Saginaw Valley and major in Education with a focus in Special Education.
