60 Seconds with the Superintendent
Strongsville High School, in partnership with the District’s Business Advisory Council, has developed a Career Education Pathway Program for students. SHS is currently in the process of accepting applications from a select group of sophomore students to join this program. This cohort of students will take classes together, have opportunities to explore their career interests, as well as grow and develop job readiness skills. SCS RESPONSIBLE RESTART COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE
Our District has created the SCS Responsible Restart Comprehensive Guide - one document in one location outlining our District’s policies and procedures. This document should be used as a guide, allowing you to quickly find answers to your questions. The guide can also be found at www.strongnet.org/restart.
As we have seen throughout the pandemic, factors can change on a daily basis and this Guide will remain adjustable and flexible to respond to state and local health guidelines.
SHS STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN OPTIMIST CLUB SPEECH CONTEST
Five Strongsville High School students recently participated (via Zoom) in the annual Strongsville Optimist Club Speech Contest. Junior Faith Lee was awarded first place and sophomore Jessica Deal placed second. Both have qualified to participate on April 10th in the district regional Optimist Speech Contest. Other participants included senior Marquis Globokar (third place), sophomore Gabriella Mathiellis (fourth place), and sophomore Sopia Kuhar (fifth place). All five students received a certificate of participation and a monetary reward. In addition, the top three received medals. Best of luck to Faith and Jessica at the next level!
JOIN THE STRONGSVILLE SPIRIT SQUAD - OPEN TO INCOMING 9TH-12TH GRADERS!
Attention all incoming 9-12th graders - Strongsville High School is starting a Spirit Squad! This team is an inclusive cheerleading team that will be open to students who identify as having a disability, and those who do not. Our goal is to work to cultivate school spirit, create a culture of inclusiveness, and allow students to work together to have fun while building relationships. This team is open to everyone, no matter what your cheer experience is or your background! A virtual informational meeting will be held on April 14th at 6pm for anyone who is interested. This year’s “State of the Schools” highlights the ways our District has broken through barriers during this very challenging year and the various ways we are developing our students into “Model Mustangs.”
MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MR. KEVIN KLEIN, MATH TEACHER AT STRONGSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL
Mr. Kevin Klein has been a math teacher at Strongsville High School for 21 years. Mr. Klein graduated from Bowling Green State University and earned a Master’s Degree from Cleveland State University in Sports Management. Thinking he would eventually like to become an Athletic Director, he soon realized that he missed time with students and it was more meaningful for him to stay in the classroom.
“I love getting to know the students. It is so important and enjoyable to find out what else drives them in their lives. I am always curious about other things they do, whether that means sports they are involved in, musical pursuits like Contemporary Youth Orchestra or Cleveland Youth Orchestra, or things beyond school as well. I feel very fortunate and privileged to work in such a great and supportive community. I have incredible students every year and the parents and school are responsible for the quality of the students coming into my class every year. I just try to enhance all parts of their lives when they enter my classroom,” said Mr. Klein.
“The absolute best part of my job is working with the students. I honestly can't imagine doing any other job. I love what I do, and it's incredible to say that after 21 years of teaching I love it more now than when I entered the profession. That comes down to having incredible students every year.”

‘THE DERBY’ SPIRIT SHOP OFFICIALLY OPENS AT SHS
'The Derby' officially opened this week with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This new spirit store at Strongsville High School will help develop workplace readiness skills for students with disabilities. Our Special Education, Business, and Career Tech departments have collaborated to also introduce two new courses, Exploring Retail and Entrepreneurial Skills and Independent Living and Career Skills, where students are learning alongside their peers in co-taught classrooms.
The retail store is currently open during lunch periods for students and staff. Plans continue to be developed to extend the reach of this spirit store and offer merchandise to the community. Stay tuned!
AHOY MATEYS! CHOOSE-YOUR-OWN-ADVENTURE PIRATE EVENT!
Looking for an adventure over Spring Break? Families are encouraged to take part in the first ever Choose-Your-Own Adventure Literacy Activity. Through this interactive event, you will be transported to Captain Black Beard's pirate ship! While on the ship, you will search for treasure, solve mysteries, and take on exciting challenges-- all while trying to escape the ship with Captain Black Beard's gold! Completing these tasks will require bravery, resilience, and your very best literacy skills. Through reading, writing, and a bit of luck, you may just leave Black Beard's ship with his precious treasure. Just be careful-- one wrong step may lead to you walking the plank!

SHS COLOR GUARD AUDITIONS
Auditions for the 2021 SHS Color Guard are coming soon and open to interested students currently in 8th - 11th grade. The SHS Color Guard performs in the fall with the Marching Mustangs. Auditions will be held in the SHS Main Gymnasium from 3pm - 5pm April 12-15 and April 19-21. Applicants must pre register with Mrs. Stroup (mstroup@scsmustangs.org) prior to April 12. Strongsville City Schools is now hiring motivated, energetic, part-time professional substitute school bus drivers. This position features great pay ($16.19 per hour), flexible hours, no holidays, and is very rewarding. Requires a CDL Class B, with SP endorsement - TRAINING IS AVAILABLE!

Art Contest for Elementary School Students
Attention Elementary School Students! Have you ever thought about your favorite things in Strongsville? Strongsville Women’s League is holding an art contest for Strongsville residents in K-5th grade. Whether you’re in school, learning remotely, or home schooled, just create an image to answer ”I Know I’m In Strongsville When I See . . . “ (person, place, or thing). Entries will be accepted between March 15 - April 15 and can be dropped off in the main office at any of the five elementary schools. Strongsville Safety Village
Safety Village is a Strongsville Police Event designed to provide most of the same information delivered in Safety Town to the children of Strongsville that did not have a chance to attend Safety Town last year pre-kindergarten due to the Pandemic.
