What’s Happening in the Classroom?

Students are identifying how words have a positive or negative connotation and how it impacts the meaning of a text. Students are working on being THINKERS.
Coming up soon:
Date or Due dates: “Identity” Word Choice Analysis is due Friday, September 20th or Monday, September 23rd

Global Systems: North and Middle America (Migration)
Students are using the 5 Themes of Geography to explore the diverse landscapes and people of North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. They are also working together as Inquirers to understand the factors that “push” people to leave their homes and “pull” migrants to the United States. In addition to gaining new knowledge about this region of the world, students are developing their skills with inquiry, critical thinking, and communication.
Coming up soon:
Week of October 7-11: Formative Response: What causes people to leave their homes and migrate to the United States?
Week of October 21-25: Summative Response: How much should the US open (or close) its borders to newcomers?

Math: Unit 2 - Proportional Relationships
We are currently finishing up our first unit on Scale Drawings, and will be starting our unit on Proportional Relationships soon! In this next unit, students develop the idea of a proportional relationship. They work with proportional relationships that are represented in tables, as equations, and on graphs. This builds on grade 6 work with equivalent ratios and helps prepare students for the study of linear functions in grade 8.
Coming up soon:
Summative - Scale Drawing Mini-Project (9/23 - 9/26)
Ask your child: In math class, what does “OG” mean?
Science: Chemical Reactions and Matter
This unit will explore the fascinating world of chemical reactions and matter transformations. Students will start by observing the fizzy reaction of a bath bomb in water and then delve deeper into the scientific concepts behind this phenomenon. Through a series of investigations, students will gather evidence to determine the source of the gas produced during this reaction.
