We are in the MIDDLE
WMS Demons
From Principal Kennedy
Red Ribbon Week will be celebrated October 28-October 31 at WMS. It is nationally scheduled for the week before, but we are making a change in our schedule this year.
What is Red Ribbon Week?
The reason we celebrate Red Ribbon Week is because of DEA agent “Kiki” Camarena. Kiki was kidnapped, brutally tortured, and killed by Mexican drug traffickers. His family and friends launched Red Ribbon Week with a gathering in his hometown of people pledging to lead drug free lives to honor Kiki’s life and the battle he fought to stop drug traffickers in our country.
Why is it called "Red Ribbon" Week?
The red ribbon is a symbol to eliminate the demand for drugs. It symbolizes a commitment to a healthy drug-free lifestyle, no use of any illegal drug and no illegal use of a legal drug.
This week of celebration pride being drug free. Along with various activities, students also celebrate with dress up dates. Our TIP members decided the following for dress-up days:
MONDAY “Drugs will lie to you!” White Lies
TUESDAY “Drugs will confuse you!” Teachers Dress like Students/Students Dress like Teacher
WEDNESDAY “I’m vape free and proud!" America/Patriot/Redneck
THURSDAY “Be cool, don’t Juul!!” Hawaiian
*You may wear hats if it goes with the dress up day.
There will be a content on Tuesday and Wednesday for those students who dress up in the most unique way. Voting takes place during homeroom. Students must be in their Homeroom class to be considered. Prizes will be given to the winners. Students must wear their ribbon to be eligible selection.
Dress code expectations in the Student/Parent Handbook apply.
With gratitude,
Katy Kennedy
