Fremont Opening School Bulletin
Please open this link to review the Fremont Opening School Bulletin. It contains some essential information for the start of the school. One of the most pressing to do's from the bulletin is the annual verification process. Please read the flyer below related to this required proccedure.
WELCOME Mrs. Karina Gaayton - Fremont Cafeteria Supervisor
Last May Mrs. Lisa made a late decision to retire after over a decade of service as the head of the Fremont Cafeteria. We welcome Mrs. Karina Gayton as our new Cafeteria Supervisor. She is very welcoming to our Fremont Falcons and willing to help in ways that make the lunchroom experience efficient for our scholars.
Please feel free to say hello if you find yourself in the Cafeteria. Wednesday mornings are the scholars favorite - Cinnamon Rolls!
Back to School Night - Title I Parent Community Meeting
Mark your calendars for Thursday, September 5. Fremont Elementary will be hosting Back to School Night. This is your chance parents to meet the teachers and see the classrooms. This year we will be using a staggered start model to accommodate families with more than one child. Below is the times for the classroom presentations:
5:30 -6:00 pm. TK, Kinder, Grade 1
6:00 -6:30 pm. Grade 2 and 3
6:30 -7:00 pm. Grade 4 and 5
In addition to the classroom presentations, parents are invited to an optional Title I - Parent Community Meeting in the auditorium from 5:00 -5:30 pm and again from 7:00 -7:30 pm. There will also be recreation aides supervising the playground for Fremont students.
We hope you can find the time to visit our school.
Class Placements
From time to time families request a classroom change for their student, and in recent years we have been able to accommodate these requests. This year Fremont has full classes in many grade levels so we will be implementing a volunteer transfer policy across all classes. Under this policy, a family will need to submit a volunteer transfer form and we will only be able to move a student if an opening occurs in the requested classroom. If you strongly feel your student would benefit from another class experience, please complete the form at the following link below. Principal Lounsbery will be monitoring all requests and will be in contact regarding the request.
Celebrating Birthdays!
We will be focusing on our compliance with the Federal Nutritional Guidelines for Schools during this school year. The fuel we provide our children for physical and mental growth is essential to their success. Therefore, we ask you to consider the following:
1. We do not view individual birthday celebrations as class parties. Therefore, we will not accept or disseminate cupcakes, donuts, and other sweets before, during or at dismissal to classmates as a way of celebrating a birthday. Please work with your teacher to determine a way to celebrate the individuality of your scholar on their special day.
2. Food Items brought from home should be nutritious and appropriate serving sizes. We are noticing students that bring only one oversized serving of an item for lunch. We will encourage students that have limited variety of lunch items to take advantage of the free school lunch and will contact caregivers of our noticing. We do this to inform caregivers, as we know students occasionally act outside expectations both at home and at school.
3. Single Snack - We will be encouraging students to take only one snack item to morning recess. We notice that many students spend a large part of their recess time eating many food items. We encourage students eating healthy snacks but also understand the need to move and participate in vigorous activity throughout the school day. We will notify caregivers of excessive snacking during the school day.
Should you want to discuss any of these three expectations in greater detail, please call the school office (562) 439-6873, and I will be happy to facilitate a discussion about these expectations for healthy eating in relation to our School Nutritional Guidelines.
Sankofa Parent Village (SPV) is a community of care and support for Parents and Caregivers of Black children. LBUSD is committed to centering the unique needs of our community members and engaging in a way that affirms their cultural identities. We recognize that our Village members play an essential role in helping students attain success in school, and as partners, we endeavor to work together to make certain that all Black children achieve excellence on purpose. We strive to provide our Village with the information, tools, and skills that will empower them to elevate academic achievement and center social-emotional wellbeing in their home, school, and community.
After School Enrichment Opportunities
Below are fliers related to enrichment opportunities offered at Fremont. These programs are from approved outside vendors that charge a fee for the experience.
School Absences
If your child will be missing school, you can avoid those notes, or timely phone calls. Simply scan the QR code below to access the Fremont Absence Google Form. It takes only a few seconds and helps a bunch in our efforts to maximize our average daily attendance.
Start of the School Day
The map below details student drop-off locations for entering campus. Please note:
1). One -Way Traffic along Vermont Avenue during Drop-off and Pick-up. This allows for two lanes of traffic moving from east to west.
2) Adult run Valet Drop-off in close proximity to the Kinder -Grade 3 gates so students can safely access the campus without parents having to leave their vehicle. LINK to VIPS volunteers for VALET DROP-OFF.
3) Grade 4-5 Drop-off was added last year and was found to help traffic flow. It will remain in effect this year. Please note this drop off will not be overseen by adults.
For the Safety of our Scholars - ALL ADULTS MUST ENTER CAMPUS THROUGH THE OFFICE ENTRANCE.
After School Programming Grades 1-5
Fremont offers two options for daily after school care , After School Play and Kids Club.
1). After School Play - This is supervised play for grades 1-5 on the playground from 2:10 pm until 3:10 pm.
There is NO COST for this service. We expect students will use this service daily as there is a daily check in. Should you need this service on specific days. Pease communicate those days directly to the teacher. Please use this LINK to register your Fremont Scholar for this program.
2) KIDS CLUB - This is a fee based service that is provided for our Fremont Students before and after school. To learn more please contact Amy Hill at 562-856-2751.
Welcome Ms. Amy Hill
Kids Club will be expanding this year as students in Kinder and TK will be utilizing the room off the TK-Kinder playground, Room 2109. In addition, the Computer lab will be getting new furniture and the older students will be using that space as part of the after school program. With all of this new space we are happy to have Mrs. Amy Hill running our Kids Club. Her positive spirit and cheerful attitude will make the Kids Club experience a positive part of our Fremont Scholars Day.
Fremont to become a GATE Certified School.
Fremont has been selected as one of two schools in LBUSD that will enter a two year pilot program to be recognized as a GATE Certified School. We are very excited about this opportunity as we know GATE strategies help all students grow across the learning spectrum. Although these GATE strategies are common in many of our classrooms, this process will provide training, and a focus on rigorous learning that will become a part of every child's learning experience here at Fremont. To learn about GATE along side our teachers, please check out the family resources provided on the LBUSD website.
Throughout the school year we will be hosting several informational meetings that will highlight this work, and we look forward to growing in our knowledge of rigorous learning that motivates all learners and prepares them for the challenges of the future.
Changes at Fremont
It is always exciting for our Fremont Falcons to transition to a new classroom with new classmates and possibly a new teacher. Fortunately, here at Fremont all classroom teachers will be returning this fall and they are busy getting things ready for the first day. New to Fremont will be faces that will be providing support for our teachers and students. This increase in resources to support learning is due to district funding increases specific to Fremont and is a direct result of your participation in completing the annual verification process. Thank you for supporting Fremont through your actions!
New Support Personnel
Dawson Allen – School Counselor (Full -Time)
Dawson Allen is an energetic and knowledgeable new counselor to Fremont and LBUSD. We are excited because he will be here every day and will support students and teachers as they confront social and emotional challenges throughout the school day.
Tracy Delucca - Parent/Community Facilitator (Half-Time)
In June we sadly wished farewell to Mrs. Cool as she entered into retirement. Although she will be greatly missed, we are excited to have Tracy Delucca replace her in this position. Tracy served Addams Elementary in this capacity last year and brings a wealth knowledge regarding English Language Learners and Social -Emotional strategies. She will be here every Monday and Tuesday and occasionally on Wednesday.
Erin Villegas –Visual Arts Teacher (Monday and Tuesday)
Mrs. Gallo will transition to a role that provides more push-in support to our classrooms for Math and Science. Bring on Erin Villegas, she will be taking over the duties as Art Teacher for all grade levels. All students will receive an Art lesson on alternating weeks with Library. We welcome her expertise and look forward to seeing the student work throughout the campus.
Craig Helmar – Librarian (Thursday and Friday)
Joining the Fremont team this year is Librarian Craig Helmar. He is a veteran in the field and we look forward to learning from him as he makes our books come alive in the library. All students will experience his love for reading on alternating weeks with art.
Welcome to Fremont and we look forward to meeting you all within the first days of school.

School Uniform Policy
Fremont Elementary School will continue to recognize the LBUSD Uniform Policy for Grade TK-8. We recognize some middle schools have chosen to waive this policy, however, we believe it has merit in ensuring a consistent effort by all students to honor the Student Dress Code as outlined in the LBUSD Guidelines for Students and Parents. (Pg. 27 and 28)
We have many options to assist you should you need assistance acquiring school uniforms for your student. Please reach out at the school number to determine the best option for your family.
