News for November 14, 2024
It was another full and busy week at RAHS. Students are working to finish strong this trimester with only 9 days left (trimester one ends on Nov. 27). At RAHS we acknowledged Veterans Day with a presentation on Monday and in homeroom yesterday celebrated Native American heritage month with learning from some of our very own RAHS students. Earlier this week marked "world kindness day" and our RAHS peer helpers had a photo shoot spot. We continue to have a focus on post-secondary options for our students and recently students in AVID prioritized their top choices in college searches. Always happy to share our Raider Pride!
- November 27- End of Trimester 1
- November 28 & 29- Thanksgiving Break, No School
- December 2- Grading Day, No School
- December 3- First Day of Trimester 2
RAHS Media Center
We are excited to announce that our school has secured unlimited access to the Minnesota Star-Tribune for all our students. This valuable resource will enhance our students’ learning experience and keep them informed about current events.
Key Points:
1. All students can now access the Star-Tribune’s online collection of materials.
2. Teachers and Media Center staff have the login credentials to help students access this resource.
3. The Star-Tribune provides reliable, high-quality information for students’ research and learning.
4. This initiative supports local journalism and helps students become well-informed citizens.
How to Access:
Students can obtain the login information from their teachers or the Media Center staff. We encourage you to have your child take advantage of this excellent resource for their academic work and personal enrichment.
We believe that staying informed about our community is crucial, and the Star-Tribune offers a trustworthy source of local and national news. By using this resource, students will develop critical thinking skills and become more engaged with current events.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or the Media Center staff.
Thank you for your support in enhancing our students’ educational experience.

ROOTED IN STEM - DIVERSITY IN STEM MENTORSHIP OPPORTUNITY (for current 10th grade students)
Rooted in STEM is a unique program offered through the College of Science & Engineering at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities that brings together students in grades 10-12 from historically excluded identities in STEM to learn about STEM academics and community support at the U of M.
This program entails a commitment of one Saturday per month during the school year which includes networking with peers and students/faculty at the U, learning about current topics in research and academics, and exploring potential careers, among other things!
There is no cost to participate, but there IS a $40,000 scholarship opportunity for participants who are a part of the program for two years!
Historically underrepresented groups in STEM are especially encouraged to apply. These groups may include (but not limited to):
- Low socioeconomic status (qualify for educational benefits/free or reduced lunch)
- Black, Indigenous, or person of color (BIPOC), including Somali, Hmong, and/or Latine
- Immigrant or first-generation American
- Potential first-generation college students
- LGBTQIA+ students
- Students with disabilities
Applications are due on December 1, 2024 and require a personal statement and teacher recommendation.

UNIQUE POSTSECONDARY OPPORTUNITIES!
When students are thinking about their plans for after high school, they often default to looking at 2-year or 4-year colleges. However, there are so many opportunities for students outside of these options, including apprenticeships, short-term training programs, work readiness programs, and employment opportunities. The majority of these programs provide training at no cost to participants (!!), or even allow participants to get paid while training!!
I have found that many students and families have no idea programs like this exist, and I am so excited to be able to share such opportunities with you all. Please click on the link here to see what’s out there. This is a “live” slideshow that will get updated frequently with new programs and opportunities!
Note: This slideshow can also be found on the Career & College Center’s website. Take a look at the other resources available to you and your students as you talk about postsecondary planning.
I am passionate about helping students find a great next step for them after high school; please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Health Office and Attendance
Is My Child Well Enough to Come to School?
If your child has a fever of 100 degrees or more, they should stay home for 24 hours after the temperature returns to normal and remains normal without fever-reducing medication.
If your child has vomited or has diarrhea, they should stay home until 24 hours after the last episode.
If your child had any rash that may be disease-related or the cause is unknown, check with your healthcare provider before sending them back to school.
If your child is ill, please call the school to report the illness. If you have questions regarding your child's illness, please call your school nurse at 651-635-1682 or healthcare provider.
It is OK to come to school if your student has a runny nose or little cough but no fever.
COVID Reminder: If your student tests positive for COVID, simply keep them home until they meet general wellness guidelines listed below. Please alert the attendance office each day of the absence by calling 651-604-1465 or emailing rahs-attendance@isd623.org.

COVID-19 Guidelines
If you have a respiratory virus (such as COVID-19, Influenza, or RSV):
- Stay home and away from others (including people you live with who are not sick) if you have symptoms that aren't better explained by another cause. These symptoms can include fever, chills, fatigue, cough, runny nose, and headache.
- You can go back to your normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, both are true:
- Your symptoms are getting better overall, and
- You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).
- When you go back to your normal activities, we recommend taking added precautions over the next 5 days, such as: practicing enhanced hygiene practices, wearing a well-fitting mask, and/or testing when you will be around other people indoors.
- If you develop a fever or you start to feel worse after you have gone back to normal activities, stay home and away from others again until, for at least 24 hours, both are true: your symptoms are improving overall, and you have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication). Then take added precaution for the next 5 days.
RAHS Attendance
Please report all absences and attendance information to the RAHS Attendance Line (rahs-attendance@isd623.org or 651-604-1465).
Students Leaving School During the School Day
Please remember that if your child is not feeling well during the school day, they must check out through the Health Office. The Health Office needs to contact you for permission and write your child a pass to leave. If your child needs to leave for a planned appointment, the attendance office will give them a pass. Leaving the building without a pass from the health office or the attendance office will result in an unexcused absence.
