Lemira Elementary School Updates:
As we embark on this journey together, our theme this year is "Unlocking Potential, the AVID Way"! At Lemira, we believe that every scholar has the key to success within them, and through AVID, we are dedicated to unlocking potential that lies within each individual scholar. Together, we will continue to make Lemira great!
Announcements
Happy New Year, and welcome to semester 2!
1. Report Cards
- Report Cards will go home with students on Wednesday, January 22nd (2025)
- The new semester (semester 2, qtr. 3) will begin Jan. 6th
- Please encourage your students to give their best as they go into a new quarter and semester.
2. "Celebration of Learning" Awards Programs
I. January 28th: Celebration of Learning Awards Day / PreK - 2nd grades
1st and 2nd 8:15am - 9:15am
PreK and Kind 9:30am - 10:30am
II. January 30th: Celebration of Learning Awards Day / 3rd - 5th grades
3rd and 4th 8:15am - 9:15am
5th 9:30am - 10:30am
3. Read to Succeed Retention Parent Conferences
- All third graders, according to the state's Read to Succeed Mandate, not meeting progress towards grade level proficiency will have parent conferences hosted during the following timeframe: January 6 - 17th.
- If your scholar is affected, the teacher will make contact with you to schedule the conference.
- We ask that you please attend and ask questions as the team will work towards developing strategies to improve student achivement.
- If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your scholar's teacher, Reading Coach Dr. Bellinger, or Principal Gregg.
4. NAEP Testing
- Lemira has been selected to participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
- NAEP has randomly selected (50) 9-year-old Lemira students to test in either reading or math.
- Letters will be sent home with selected students on Monday, December 9
- If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your scholar's teacher or AP Dowling.
5. PBIS
- Our first PBIS monitoring period for the 2nd semester will begin Monday, January 6 and run through Wednesday, February 12.
- All students who are referral-free through this period will be able to attend the PBIS Celebration on Thursday, February 13.
- Our next PBIS Spirit Week will be February 10-13.
6. After-School Programs
- January 21st: Academic Scholars and FEV Tutoring after school programs begin
- Please ensure all rostered students have permission forms signed and returned.
- Ms. L. Levine will be the contact person for After School Scholars Club
- Mr. Thomas Drew will be the contact person for FEV Tutoring
- Please reference letters sent home for times and days of the week in which the programs will be held.
- Both after school programs will offer dinner to students.
- Student Transportation must be arranged by parent.
7. SIC and Title One Planning Meeting w/ Parents and Community Stakeholders
- January 23rd @ 5pm
- Location: Media Center / Lemira Elem.
8. McDonald's Spirit Night
- January 29th: McDonald's Spirit Night (Lafeyette Dr location) / 5:00 – 7:00pm
9. School Closures this Month
- January 20th / Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday / No school for students or staff
10. Title One Parent Reading Corner:
1/11 The Main Sumter Library will host “Read to Me: Therapy Dogs” from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM. Come and read to trained therapy dogs.
11. Title One Parent SEL Tips:
Teach respect & tolerance of others by exposing your child to different cultures. The more they know about other peoples’ lives and habits, the more open-minded and tolerant they may become.
*Select foods from different countries to nibble together.
*Attend community events that celebrate other cultures.
*Spin a globe and point out faraway lands.
*Visit the library and explore stories from around the world.
