HOPE Squad
Last Thursday, both middle and high schools’ chapters of HOPE Squad traveled to Lafayette Church in Medina for an all day training event along side Buckeye Local and Cloverleaf Local Schools.
HOPE Squad is a peer-to-peer suicide prevention program that focused on human connection, community, and hope.
Approximately 130 students from all three schools took part in the training program where they learned the different approaches to talking with peers and knowing how to spot the warning signs. We wrapped up the day with student testimonials of their experiences with HOPE Squad including many of our students who shared inspiring stories and how this organization has given them a sense of purpose. Special thank you to Bridgette at Buckeye High School for leading the event and to the advisors from all three districts who helped make this day possible including our advisors Phil Bonus, Keira Dodd, Liz Mentler, Tara Miller, and Wendy Walland along with Jason Gerrick and Elaine Gradisher at the middle school.

Upcoming Events
Underclass Picture Day Retake Day is Tuesday, October 29
Cavanaugh Photography will be here on Tuesday, October 29 for school pictures for students in grade 9, 10, and 11.
Start with Hello Week October 7 - October 10
In every community there are young people suffering silently because they feel left out, alone or invisible. Social isolation is a growing epidemic in our schools and across the US. Young people who are isolated can become victims of bullying, violence, and/or depression. Many of them pull away from society and can struggle with learning and social development.
This is why we are bringing the Sandy Hook Promise ‘s Start with Hello Program to NOHS next week. We will Start on Monday October 7th and end on Thursday October 10th.
Start with Hello Week raises awareness and educates young people about social isolation and how to create a connected and inclusive classroom, school and community. Students will be asked to participate in some fun activities that may take them out of their comfort zone to try and include others.

Sophomore and Junior Eagles and Parents/Guardians,
NOHS is offering the digital PSAT/NMSQT at NOHS on Thursday, October 24 at 8 AM. All college bound sophomores and juniors are encouraged to sign up to take the PSAT/NMSQT.
Students can sign up in the Google classroom for their graduating class. There is no charge for the digital test but students must sign up by Thursday, October 10.
Why take the PSAT/NMSQT? Please visit www.collegeboard.org/psat for information.
October 24 will be a remote day so only students taking the PSAT/NMSQT will be in attendance that day. The test should be over by 11-11:30 AM. Students approved for extended time on the test will finish later.
School counselors have visited Social Studies classes to share a variety of information and promote the PSAT/NMSQT. Hopefully your student will share the results of their Career Interest Profiler (juniors) or Strengths Explorer (sophomores). These career activities were completed in Naviance, our college and career platform.
