Community Check-In
North Rockland Central School District
North Rockland Families:
This was an exciting week in North Rockland, beginning with a visit from Regent Wills of the New York State Education Department Board of Regents for an in-depth look on how our SEL program has expanded, becoming such an important part of our District and an example for the state.
Our Holiday Concert series, food, toy and coat drives for our community, Winter Boutique and other festive events kicked off across our school buildings with incredible success! In addition to taking part in frosty curriculum, events, concerts and donation collections I'm proud to share that our students have been taking charge and getting themselves out there by volunteering.
Caroling at the Stony Point Town Parade and tree lighting ceremonies, assisting in Toys for Tots collections and honoring our local veterans are just some of the actions learners have taken to help spread joy. Seeing so many of our students taking up causes that will better this season for so many in our community really adds to the magic of the holidays.
It's part of North Rockland's family culture and dynamic to care about one another, especially this time of year. In the video below you will see how although Haverstraw Elementary is made up of four houses, they are truly one family.
The Ron Clark Academy House System and Amazing Shake competitions have brought fun, electricity and excitement to the school day. This year upper elementary students are taking on more responsibility by taking on the role of house leaders.
Whether it be SEL, The House System or Amazing Shake, it is our mission to ensure that when we implement programs where children thrive, that we keep building upon them. The Board of Education, school leaders and administrators have been rigorously training and working on rolling out these wonderful initiatives on a larger scale across our schools.
As always in NRCSD, there’s so much more to come!

Regent Wills - Dr. Frances Wills visited the North Rockland Central School District!
Wills represents Rockland on the New York State Education Department Board of Regents. It was a very special morning at West Haverstraw Elementary as she was welcomed by our students, staff, Superintendent Dr. Kris Felicello, Deputy Superintendent Anthony Zollo, administrators and school board members for a SELebration! Via a round table panel with NR’s SEL leaders, everyone sat down for an in depth look on how the program has become such an important part of our District and example for the state.
Social Emotional Learning in our buildings is about increasing self-awareness, academic achievement and positive behaviors both in and out of the classroom. It was an honor to show how it’s been integrated into the daily structure of our students' day. The unique approach to “checking in with ourselves” has also not only helped students with their mental well being, it’s brought a deeper sense of community forward in our schools.
We will be sharing more from the important visit. Our students were very excited to show off their SEL skills and put on special performances for Dr. Wills as well. Special thanks goes out to District SEL Specialist Reyna Texler and Director for K-6 Curriculum & Programs Amanda Aiello Ayatollahi for coordinating the day and for all the work they do to implement such a strong, successful program in our schools. PANS/PANDAS Shoe Drive
PANS/PANDAS is a medical condition that causes an autoimmune encephalopathy, resulting in varying degrees of psychiatric symptoms, learning issues and motor coordination disruptions. PANDAS stands for Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections, or PANS-Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Syndrome. www.pandasnetwork.org. NR has joined forces with local families to participate in the PANDAS Network shoe fundraiser. The fundraiser is to increase awareness and provide support for PANDAS Research. Gently used or new shoes can be dropped off to our schools collection boxes like the on pictured below at Thiells Elementary.
Community Caroling
(North)Rockin’ and rollin’ into the holiday season!
Last Friday night, a crowd gathered along East Main Street in Stony Point, with anticipation of the many guests of the Light Up Holiday Parade. The trucks rolled in, outfitted with lights, decorations, sponsors and characters to bring joy to everyone in attendance. At the end of the parade was the main attraction, Mr. and Mrs. Claus, who were greeted by carols from The Stony Point Elementary Third Grade Chorus. They did an amazing job spreading Christmas and holiday cheer by singing LOUD and NR Proud for all to hear! More photos.

Raider Rescue 🐾
Dodger! 🐶
"Dodger is another one of Hi Tor's big boys with a heart and personality to match. He is a young 3 and a half year old who came to us as a stray back in May. He loves all of our other dogs and gets along well with people. He is a handsome brown hound with big youthful eyes. Once you meet him, Dodger will steal your heart and then your couch. If you are interested in adopting him please fill out an application on our website Hitor.org."
Cookie 😻
"Cookie is a gorgeous 7 year old white and black cat. She was brought to us just over a year ago
when her owners were moving and couldn't take her with them. She was very nervous when
she first came to us but has since opened up. She loves butt scratches and treats. She is
however a one cat household. She doesn't want to share her human with anyone else. She also
gets very offended when you take pictures of her fat belly but it's easy to smooth things over
with a good petting. If you are interested in adopting please fill out an application on our website Hitor.org."
