Halloween Around Edison
Thursday, October 31st
- Parade: A short "Halloween Parade" will take place beginning at 10:00AM on Thursday, October 31st. Weather permitting, we will parade out the main doors and around the building. Our Y5s & kindergarten students will lead the parade around each classroom and then out and around the building. All are welcome to come and watch our costume parade outdoors! (In the event of inclement weather, we will not be able to have any parent spectators for an indoor parade).
- Classroom Activities: Classrooms/grade levels will be planning for Halloween activities and celebrations individually, either before or after the parade. If teachers request parent volunteers to help facilitate the classroom activities, all volunteers will have to submit a Background Check.
- Costumes: Students may come to school in costume on Thursday, October 31st. They can stay in costume for the duration of the day. Costumes need to be school appropriate and cannot depict violence or excess blood/gore. No fake weapons are allowed in school (i.e. toy guns, swords, blades, etc). Costume masks can be worn for the parade, but not throughout the day. For costumes that have short skirts/shorts, leggings or pants need to be worn underneath.
October is Red Ribbon Month!
Wear Red Every Monday In October To Promote a Drug-Free Life!
National Red Ribbon month is set aside to bring awareness about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. During Red Ribbon Month we will learn the importance of being drug free.
In honor of Red Ribbon Month, we would like our students to try to wear red EVERY Monday in October.
The National Red Ribbon theme is “Life is a Movie, Film Drug Free”.
We look forward to promoting healthy lifestyle choices throughout the month!
3rd-6th Graders Interested in Joining Science and/or Social Studies Olympiad
Signed Permission Slips Are Due THIS Wednesday, October 30
Our 3rd-6th grade students brought home a flyer last week with information about joining Edison's Social Studies or Science Olympiad teams. This is a great opportunity to get involved and represent our school!
If your 3rd-6th grader is interested in joining the team(s), they need to be sure to submit the form(s), signed by a parent, by Wednesday, October 30th! No late submissions will be accepted.
Fraser Public Schools- Strategic Plan Community Meeting
We are excited to embark on the creation of our 2025-2030 Strategic Plan—a roadmap that will shape the next five years of excellence in Fraser Public Schools. This plan will continue to focus on our strong traditions of excellence by staying committed to our core values and beliefs - Innovate, Learn, Lead.
We will be holding a Community & Parent Meeting to kick off the strategic planning process on October 29th at 6 pm in the Fraser High School Media Center. All are welcome to attend!
Be Sure You Have Canvas: Parent Observer Access
Canvas Learning Management System
All students, grades Young 5s-12 use Canvas, a learning management system. Classroom teachers use Canvas to provide instruction, resources, activities, and assessments for students, as well as parent communication.
Parents are encouraged to set up a parent/observer account to stay abreast of student learning. Canvas will allow parents to:
- Contact their child’s teacher
- View grades, due dates, and events
- See, and in many cases access, what the child is doing at school
- Support an absent student
- View classroom and building announcements
Downloadable directions are linked below. In addition, helpful videos and walk-throughs may be found linked HERE.
If you have any trouble at all, please reach out to Edison's Media Clerk, Steve Belz at Steven.Belz@fraserk12.org or Kim Keith at kimberly.keith@fraserk12.org..
Achatz Pie Fundraiser
For those that supply pies for Thanksgiving, consider purchasing Achatz pie gift cards, as our school receives 15% of all gift cards sold.
All orders are due on Monday, November 14.
Coming November 11- November 14
Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. And fostering a love of independent reading leads to a wide variety of benefits—including academic success and improved mental health.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Book Fair:
Preview Dates- Nov. 7th & 8th
Dates: Monday, Nov. 11th - Friday, Nov.15th
Location: Edison Media Center
Open Shopping Monday Nov. 11th - Thursday. Nov. 14th- 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Book Fair Closes- Promptly at 11am on Friday, Nov. 15th
There’s even more info on our school’s Book Fair homepage:
https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/edisonelementaryschool39
While you’re there, set up a Book Fair eWallet, the digital payment account that allows your child to shop for books at the Fair without cash. Then share your eWallet link so friends and extended family can add funds.
When you fund an eWallet, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to a giving initiative called Share the Fair™. Your contributions directly support our students who need help buying books from the Fair.
Many of us still remember the rush of finding the perfect book at a Scholastic Book Fair. I hope you’ll join your child at our school’s Fair and share a reading experience they’ll remember forever.
Need one more reason to visit the Book Fair? Every purchase at the Fair benefits our school!
Dress For The Weather
Ready or Not- The Cold Weather Is Coming!
Please be sure to send your child to school dressed for the weather each day. Before we know it, students will start needing warm coats, gloves, hats, scarves, and/or boots daily throughout the fall/winter.
Please take time to label each and every item- because our lost and found gets bombarded with lost winter accessories throughout the season
Please note that, per Board Policy, we will be having outdoor morning lineup and heading outdoors for our 20 minute recess(es) if the windchill is 10+ degrees.
Time outdoors is time well spent for kids, in all seasons
Parking Lot Reminders
Please Do Not Park/Idle/Stop in Marked Areas
- Unfortunately, we don’t have a “bus loop” at Edison, which also limits our ability for a curbside drop off/pick up lane. Our transportation department needs us to stop stopping/parking/idling in the areas marked with a red 'x' (essentially, every turn/curve of the lot) because the busses cannot get through.
- Please park in a designated parking spot at arrival and dismissal, while you wait to drop off/pick up your children.
- All Y5-2nd grade students must be picked up by an adult at their doors.
- 3rd-6th grade students are dismissed out their doors and may navigate the parking lot as their parents see fit. Please note, our staff does our best to help kids cross when possible, but we do not have designated crossing guards in our lot. The safest option will always be for parents to park, walk up, drop off/retreive their child(ren), and navigate the lot with their child(ren).
- At dismissal time, please don’t sit idle in driving lane while waiting for your student.
PTO Updates

- Vice President: Lisa Heckman

- Secretary: Melissa Loder
Our next PTO Meeting will take place on Thursday, November 14 at 6:00PM in the Edison Media Center.
A Few School Policies & Procedures To Make Note Of:
Attendance
Your child's lifelong school/work attendance habits are being deeply established right now. Parents should make every effort to get their child to school by 8:30AM each day and allow them to stay for the full duration of every day. Excessive absences, tardies, and early dismissals hugely impact a child's confidence, social interactions, and school performance.
Birthday Treats
Birthday students may bring store-bought, individually wrapped treats/snacks or trinkets to distribute to their classmates to be taken home. Please do not send in a tray of cupcakes, homemade baked goods, pizza, etc intending for them to be consumed at school- as many students have dietary restrictions that need to be closely monitored by their parents & school staff. All treats/trinkets will be sent home with students.
Cell Phones
Hot Food Deliveries
Please do not plan to drop off "hot lunches" for your child at lunch time. This includes parents/family members dropping off fast food and/or Door Dashing food for their children. It is very logistically challenging to ensure that your child receives the food delivery on time and often results in students spending much of their lunch period awaiting a delivery.
Free and Reduced Meals
The State of Michigan will provide a free breakfast and lunch for all students who want them throughout the 2024-2025 school year. Although not required, we do ask that families complete the Education Benefit Form located HERE. By doing so you help ensure the school receives additional funding.
