Caddo Mills ISD

The location and date for the annual senior citizen dinner was changed this year and it appears the new format was a success! By changing the location and day we were able to showcase the students of CMHS. The band played, cheerleaders cheered, drill team performed and it was a great time for all involved. Football players, along with the cheer and drill team served the delicious dinner catered by Fiesta's!

We are thankful for the senior citizens of Caddo Mills and we hope that everyone enjoyed the dinner and performances.

The US Department of Education's National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors the most successful public and non-public elementary, middle, and high schools. The NBRS flag has become a trademark of excellence and a symbol of quality. The program recognizes schools whose students achieve at a very high level or schools who make significant progress in closing achievement gaps among different groups of students.

CMISD is proud to recognize Griffis Elementary and their nomination for this distinction!

The announcement for the winners of this distinction will be Thursday, September 26th!

Griffis Elementary received an "A" rating from the Texas Education Agency in the A-F Accountability Report. They received the following distinctions:

• Academic Achievement in Mathematics
• Academic Achievement in English Language Arts/Reading
• Post-Secondary Readiness

• GRIFFIS FOX NEWS is coming soon!

Griffis Fox News is a news report created by 5th grade students. Students will choose topics of interest, write scripts, and conduct interviews as part of the broadcasting process to develop their news reports. Griffis Fox News will be planned and pre-recorded throughout the week and will air each Friday morning. Students have a blast as they showcase events and activities within the school environment.

• 5TH GRADE ROBOTICS TEAMS

The Griffis Robotics program exposes students to important engineering concepts and computer programming. Our two teams of Griffis RoboFoxes travel and compete in several Vex Competitions throughout the school year. Students are able to experience problem-solving, collaboration, hands-on learning, and teamwork while building and learning to maneuver their robots.

The Student Council @ Lee Elementary received two big awards for 2018-2019

• 2019 American Student Council Association Honor Council of Excellence
• 2019 TEPSA Student Leadership Award

The Honor Council of Excellence award was based on the campus submission of projects that were completed by the student council during the 2018-2019 school year as well as the election procedures and constitution of the student council. Councils also submit letters of recommendation from the campus principal and student council president.

The TEPSA Student Leadership Award recognizes outstanding student leadership for their contributions that improve their school and community.

There are 2 Community Service Projects at Lee Elementary:

*Senior Citizen's Luncheon*

This is a school wide community service project with everyone working together to make the luncheon successful! Student Council members worked with students, staff, and community members throughout this project with each grade level assigned a task to complete.

• Pre-K and kindergarten students performed songs
• 1st grade learned the art of shaking hands and welcoming the guests.
• 2nd grade made placemats to decorate the tables.
• 3rd grade wrote pen pal letters.
• 4th grade performed a drumming routine.
• 5th grade made "welcome" and "thank you" posters to decorate the hallways and library.

Student Council members assisted in all areas of the process. Fifth grade members and officers helped serve the food alongside high school FCCLA members.

*The Breakfast Club*

The goal of this project is to increase the reading level of kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students through peer mentoring and peer tutoring in reading. K-2nd will increase their reading level by working with a Student Council member in a peer mentoring/tutoring session. Student Council members served in a leadership role with younger students who were not receiving support with reading at home.

This was our second year of Breakfast Club and we had a goal to increase student participation. The goal this year is to add more staff members into the program.

Lee Elementary is excited about the new school year and the introduction of the WeekLEE News! The weekly news is a student led broadcast team who will report weekly campus events.

Did you know that CMMS was selected as a Texas Honor Roll School for 2018-2019? This honor recognizes public elementary, middle, and high schools that demonstrate high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement over time, and reduction in achievement gaps.

Middle school has started an outdoor PE class! Students will learn the following:

• Camping Skills
• Survival Skills
• Fishing
• Hunting
• Archery Safety

Middle school STEM classes are gearing up for the year by completing lessons based around the engineering of the new turf field.

They have also constructed a t-shirt gun to shoot t-shirts into the crowd at pep rallies and football games! Be on the lookout! literally...

MS Beta students traveled to Oklahoma City this summer to compete at Nationals. Harrisen Smith won 2nd place in 8th grade Science, Kimberly Pounds was chosen as a National Leadership Representative, Marketing and Communications won 6th place, and our Lead Outside the Box team won 6th place as well.

There are approximately 85 Beta Club members this year and they are already putting together their teams and looking forward to making a positive impact in the community.

The middle school is EXCITED about their new window wraps for the cafeteria and library! They are an EXCELLENT way to promote school spirit & inspirational quotes along with adding an extra layer of security.

Caddo Mills High School was rated an A campus in the A-F Accountability Report from the Texas Education Agency. TEA also awards distinctions for academic achievement. The campus received SIX distinctions:

• Academic Achievement in Science
• Academic Achievement in Mathematics
• Academic Achievement in English Language Arts/Reading
• Academic Achievement in Social Studies
• Top 25% Comparative Academic Growth
• Top 25% Comparative Closing the Gaps

Band is anxiously awaiting their new uniforms! The new uniforms have varied colors that will really pop on the field during half-time and contests. They also have breathable fabric and will be much cooler for this hot Texas weather.

Cheer will be sporting 2 new uniforms this year...they are ready for football season and look beautiful supporting their FOX GREEN!

Caddo Mills HS currently offers the opportunity for 37 college credit hours to be earned through dual credit in partnership with Texas A&M Commerce.

Beginning this year, students will have opportunities to earn Industry Based Certifications in the following areas:

• AWS D9.1 Sheet Metal
• Texas State Floral Association Level One Floral Certification
• Microsoft Office Specialist Excel
• Microsoft Office Specialist Word
• Licensed Veterinary Technician
• Adobe Certified Associate Premier Pro
• Adobe Certified Associate Animate
• Patient Care Technician
• Phlebotomy Technician
• Certified EKG/ECG Technician

• Senior students who wish to take the SAT exam offered at the high school on October 16th can do so FREE of charge!!

• Juniors will have an opportunity to take both the ACT and SAT during the school day this year! The ACT will be offered on February 25th and the SAT will be offered on March 25th. The district will pay for either the ACT or the SAT for juniors in the spring.

• The high school will also offer the SAT Boot Camp FREE OF CHARGE to students again this year through Catalyst. This is an $100+ value per student and includes a FREE workbook!

Ed Locker Stadium has undergone a field renovation and we now have a turf field. The new field is ready for Friday Night Lights! AND we should have the new track installed before track season in the spring!

#unLEASH Football is off to a 3-1 start for the 2019 season! Excitement and anticipation is in the air as we look ahead to the season of #FoxPride!

Varsity volleyball is currently 16-15 for the year.

The first district game was Friday, September 27th at home against Crandall. The ladies fought hard and came out victorious with their 5 game victory over the Crandall Lady Pirates! Way to go, Lady Foxes!!

Cross Country has increased their participation numbers this year. They have gone from less than 20 athletes between middle school and high school to over 55 and counting this year! They competed in their first meet of the year August 22nd in Commerce with the middle school girls placing 4th as a team and the middle school boys placing 5th as a team. We are proud of our Fox Cross Country teams!
