Need to Know
October Veritas Students of the Month: We are proud to honour students each month, nominated by teachers, in recognition of going above and beyond Veritas culture. Congratulations to the students: Haiyuan Wang (7-3), Nico Ward (7-3), Jake Grigsby (7-1), Mmuso Makgala (7-3), Sammy Migliara (8-3),
and Kabir Kohli (8-3). We thank them for their outstanding contributions! Wear your Golden Tie with pride!
Message from the Headmaster: As we approach November, we would like to remind everyone to stay alert and drive safely near the school. Many students and adults are in the area during both pick-up and drop-off times. Please be respectful at all times. I understand everyone is in a hurry, but let’s take care of one another. Remember, we are all part of the same community.
Parent-Student-Teacher Virtual Conferences Nov 21&22: Beginning Thursday, Nov 14 at 3:00 p.m., parents can make appointments using pickAtime, our online booking software. The instructions for booking appointments will be attached to next week’s Update. Please note that these conferences are not mandatory and you have the option to contact a teacher to arrange a phone call or alternate meeting time if that is preferable. Also, you may wish to wait until the November interim reports are emailed to you (Tuesday Nov 19 is the target) and then arrange appointments accordingly. Students are expected to attend the virtual meetings with their parents on Nov 21&22.
Poppies on Remembrance Day: Each student will receive a poppy in class on November 11 to wear at our Remembrance Day assembly. Please note that all students are required to be in full uniform (including blazers) for this special assembly. Please send in a $2 donation (or more) for a poppy on November 11. Donations go to the Royal Canadian Legion in support of Canadian veterans and to promote Remembrance.
24 Hours for the Unhoused - Socks and Soup Collection: From now until November 12, students participating in "24 Hours for the Unhoused" are collecting new socks and canned soup to donate to Stepping Up and Dans la Rue. We encourage everyone to contribute to this worthy cause!
Middle School Dance at Trafalgar November 15: Grade 7&8 students are invited to this inter-school event taking place on Friday, November 15, 7-10pm at Trafalgar School for Girls. Advance ticket sales only ($10 admission), at Ms. Beech’s office. Students need to bring their student ID cards. Snacks will be sold at the dance, doors will close at 8pm. Ms. Corbie will attend the dance to chaperone.
Holiday Bazaar at SHS December 5: With the holiday season just around the corner, the PVA is excited to announce it is organizing its first Holiday Bazaar on Thursday December 5! Keeping sustainability in mind, after the November break the PVA will start collecting gently used items including toys, games, puzzles, holiday decorations and more, for resale to students and family members in a holiday market format. All the money raised will benefit Resilience Montreal, a non-profit day shelter. It's a great opportunity for parents to get involved! Sign up if you can contribute baked goods and/or volunteer for a shift. Items can be dropped off at the school's front desk starting Monday November 11th. We will have more information coming in the next few weeks. Please email amandajelowicki@hotmail.com with any questions.
Halloween Festivities were a fa-boo-lous success! Thank you to parents, students and staff who participated and contributed to a fun Halloween day in the Middle School! The PVA and pumpkin carvers transformed our dining hall into a galaxy far far away! Congratulations to Matthew Li who won the jar of candy with the closest guess. Winners of the costume competition earned candy prizes: 1st - Noah Kestenband as a Fanta can; 2nd - Justin Behr as Bob Ross; and 3rd - Nicholas Yotis as a break dancer! The winner of the door decorating contest was class 8-1, who will receive a prize for their class to share after the Mid-term break! 7-2 earned 2nd place and 7-4 was awarded 3rd place. Congratulations to everyone for their creative efforts! We'll share more photos next week!
