Conferences
Fall conferences are almost here! Conferences are such an important time of the school year. Students are most successful when there is a strong bridge and partnership between school and home. We can’t wait to see all of our families and share the progress your students have been making. Conferences will be held on November 13 and 14 from 3:00-6:30pm. Please sign up for one conference time with your child(ren)’s homeroom teacher. CLICK HERE to access the Conference Sign-up Genius where you will select a conference time for your child(ren). You will also receive a text with the link today, as we want to make it as accessible as possible.
Some reminders as you select a conference time:
Please sign up using your child’s first and last name. Your time slot will show as ‘filled’ and only the teacher can see the name of who signed up.
You will use the same sign up for all of your children. Move between tabs at the top to see schedules for other Ridgeway teachers. If you are on a mobile device, select the teacher from the drop-down menu and select ‘Go’.
You will receive a reminder email two days before your conference date.
If you are having trouble - please watch the video, try again, and then call the school office for help. Please click here to watch the ‘how to’ video for conference sign up.
Bus Loop Update
As you know, our bus loop is in progress. The expected completion date is July 2025. Below is a picture of what the completed bus loop will look like. It does go through our field and will be separated from the rest of the playground by a gate; however, we will be able to utilize the field to play on once it is complete.
Munch-n-Read
Next Munch-n-Read is on November 8th
If you are a Unit A parent, plan to attend the event, AND have a Unit B or C child, please sign up using this link.
If you attend Munch-n-Read, but chose to have your Unit B or C child stay in their classroom, you will either need to go to the main entrance/vestibule to check them out with Mrs. Ramsey OR go to the playground for regular parent pick up. If your Unit B or C child attends Munch-n-Read with you, you can sign both children out in your Unit A class.
Ms. Carrie (driver of bus #80) and Mr. Miles (driver of bus #84) are expecting a baby around November 10th. They both have Ridgeway students on their routes and are AMAZING drivers. Bus drivers are critical to education, and having drivers who connect with students, hold high expectations and keep everyone safe and loved are a true treasure. Ms. Carrie is hoping to stay home with the baby for four weeks, but with zero paid maternity leave, she will go without pay the entire time. We'd love to bless them with some support! Ridgeway parent Lauren Merriman has generously organized a way for parents to contribute if they choose - see below:

Lauren's Venmo is @merrimanx4 if you'd like to make a monetary donation she can consolidate them and provide Carrie with one combined donation and/or gift to her! No amount is too small! OR her Cashapp is also included in case anyone prefers to make a direct monetary donation to help support their expenses while she is on unpaid maternity leave! $carrieisawesome98

Unit Notes
- Thank you to all the families that volunteered in any way for the Fall Party. It was a huge success, and the kids had a blast!
- Reading: We are concluding our fiction unit. We have learned how to ask and answer questions and retell stories, including characters, settings, and plots.
- Writing: We have published our narrative stories, and we are so excited to read them to you at parent-teacher conferences.
- Fundations/Phonics:
- Mincke/Triplett: This week, we learned the new letters Ee and Rr and the high-frequency word see. We are continually working on letter formation to apply it in other areas of the day.
- Blades/Horn: We are continuing to work on short vowels and the high frequency words: my, look, said, two, & my . We are also practicing building words and handwriting.
- Math:
- Mincke/Triplett: We wrapped up Unit 2 this week, focusing on the attributes of 2-D shapes, ten frames, and number stories.
- Blades/Horn: We are continuing to work on addition and subtraction fluency and strategies for 0-10 and 0-20.
Unit B
- Second grade math is finishing Unit Three. While unit Two focused on fast recall of addition facts. Unit Three focused on giving students skills and strategies to increase fast recall of basic subtraction facts. Ask your child to teach you how to play some of the new math games they learned!
- Third grade math is beginning Unit Three which primarily focuses on addition and subtraction strategies. We will be working toward the standard algorithm of subtraction however we will be breaking down the concepts of subtraction and using multiple strategies and reinforcing what we know about place value.
- In writing we are closing our narrative unit. We are beginning a bat unit that focuses on informational writing. This integrates literacy and science as we look at animal adaptations, habitats, and fiction versus nonfiction.
- We had a great time at the fall party! Thank you to everyone who made the fun possible!

A Message from Coach Mason
Hello Ridgeway Families,
I hope all is well with you. I enjoy seeing the students having fun and learning new skills in class.
Please remember to have your students wear tennis shoes on their PE day so they can participate in activities. It is extremely challenging to move and fully participate with crocs or sandals on.
Unit C will finish the Fitness Gram assessment soon. This is a state mandate we provide in PE, and we will have another practice with it and a final assessment at the end of the year. It is simply to provide feedback for areas needing improvement. The first round is a pre-test to gauge students' health zones. The exercises include a pacer test, sit-and-reach, push-ups, and curl-ups.
Learning objectives in December for all Units:
We will start striking and volleying, using our hands to strike a ball and using implements to hit a ball. Striking includes mini golf, paddle games, volleyball skills, and baseball and softball skills. We will also do some mindfulness activities and continue with some health concepts.
I hope you all have a good weekend!
From Mrs. Ryberg, School Counselor
Please see the letter below from the CPS Counseling Program regarding upcoming lessons.
