Writing Club
The writing club also known as “Future Problem Solving” is an international writing competition. This competition includes students in four teams who have to complete a twenty-page packet in two hours. The writing club is currently working on insects as their topic but they do work on various things throughout the year. These students spend each Friday after school talking and writing about challenges we are facing and how our society can make changes to them. Congratulations to Akira, Taven, Malachi, Rylan, Kyla, Damien, Quinn, James, and Nina for working hard in the writing club this year!

Funnies!
“This was definitely a classic moment that I heard through my cooperating teacher during my student teaching experience. I still laugh at the thought. While grading science tests for her third grade class, this teacher noticed a memorable response to one of the questions. It said: ‘Please list the three states of matter…’. The reply was, “North Carolina, Virginia, and Kentucky.” The three states THAT matter! HA!” - https://truthforteachers.com/kid-stories/
School Threats Around America
Many schools are under threat of a school shooting. About a week ago, Jefferson High School got three school shooting threats. Many schools in this district have been under threat. RPS205 has posted on many social media apps about the threats and violence in different schools.
The threats are something very serious but luckily there have been ways to avoid getting a school shooting. Some ways people can avoid getting in the violence of a school shooting is getting notified and not going to school that specific day just in case something happens.
There have been lots of angry parents because people think RPS205 is not taking these threats seriously. They say they are trying their best, but parents don't agree. Lots of parents have not been sending their kids to school in fear for their safety.
People think that RPS205 is not taking things seriously and that they don’t care about it. People are scared about the fact that there can be a school shooting at any time, and that their kids or family could get seriously injured or in the worst situation, killed.
RPS205 is in constant contact with police to try and stop these threats from happening. If you see or hear anything please tell your school or the police, as soon as possible, so we can remain safe!
I really feel bad about Children and Kids going through all this violence. I started seeing the difference between living in Anaheim, California and living in Rockford, Illinois. I have seen many differences in violence since I've moved from California. - Alejandro Pina
I think that the violence and the school threats happening in schools right now is something schools and RPS205 have to take top priority right now because people are living with the constant fear of something happening to their loved ones. - Rafael Esquer
Student Advice - Anger Management "What To Do When You Are Angry"
#1 Preventing
We all get angry from time to time and sometimes it's hard to control that anger. When we get upset we tend to forget to think before we act or we act on impulse. I was always told to “count to three” but who has time for that? One thing you should do is first prevent it. Preventing is the best thing you can do, stay away from the drama and issues and people who test you. If you still have issues when you try to disengage from the other person thats a bully you have on your hands and you should report them to the nearest teacher or trusted adult.
#2 Think
Think before you get mad, think about the things you say and do. Always think “Will what I say get me in trouble” or “Will it offend someone”. For a few seconds, I would say about 5 just so you can process what's going on.” Or you ask your teacher or guardian if you can leave the room just to think on it.
#3 Talk It Out
#4 Apologizing
#5 Understand
Another way to handle anger is to try to understand the other person's point of view in the situation such as if you are having an argument with someone about a topic such as if you are having an argument about someone over the pronunciation of a word try to understand how the other person could have come up with the pronunciation and instead of getting angry or yelling at the other person try to explain to them as calmly as possible of why the pronunciation may be wrong by using evidence of the actual pronunciation and try to civilly end the argument.
