Cherrydale Primary School
Cheetah Newsletter October 16, 2024
From the Office
Happy Wednesday Cherrydale Families,
You may hear your child come home and talk about digital citizenship in the coming weeks. Digital citizenship refers to the responsible and ethical use of technology and the internet. At Cherrydale, we are committed to supporting our cheetahs in becoming responsible digital citizens. Through the use of Common Sense Media, we will be focusing on essential topics such as proper technology use, the importance of taking breaks from screens, and online safety. Our teachers will be dedicating time to review these important lessons with students, ensuring that they are equipped with the skills to navigate the digital world confidently and responsibly.
Thank you for your continued support in fostering a safe and healthy tech environment for our cheetahs!
Warm regards,
Christine Firth, Principal

Our school will be participating in the Great Washington ShakeOut on October 17th at 9:35 AM, an important statewide earthquake drill. The purpose of this drill is to help students, staff, and families practice how to stay safe during an earthquake. Washington is earthquake-prone, so it's critical to be prepared and know what to do.
During the drill, everyone will practice "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" — the recommended action during an earthquake. Families are encouraged to use this time to talk with their children about earthquake safety at home. Consider reviewing your home emergency plan, identifying safe spots in each room, and checking emergency supplies like water, food, and medications.
For coastal areas, tsunami warning sirens will sound as part of this drill. Please remember, this is only a test. The sirens will use the actual wailing sound, not the typical chimes.
Preparedness starts with practice! Learn more at https://www.shakeout.org/washington/.

If a student chooses a second entrée, it will be charged to student’s account. In mid-September, every family will be encouraged to complete a Free and Reduced Meal application, as this data is used to potentially keep this program going for next year!
