Pixel Art Ornaments with Google Sheets
This activity adds a winter twist to a previous project shared by Eric Curts. Using a specially designed Google Sheets template, students can create pixel art while simultaneously honing their math skills by calculating the fraction of each color used. Here’s how the activity works:
- Make a Copy: Access and copy the Google Sheets "26-Color Pixel Art" template.
- Review Instructions: Read the guidance provided on the "Directions" tab if needed.
- Choose a Fraction Tab: Select one of the fraction tabs—"Fractions8X8," "Fractions10X10," or "Fractions12X12."
- Create Pixel Art: Enter letters from "a" through "z" in the grid to design a pixel art ornament.
- Calculate Fractions: Count how many squares use each color, input the totals in the designated spots, and simplify the fractions.
- Print and Decorate: Remove the gridlines by selecting "View" and unchecking "Gridlines," then print the finished ornaments to decorate the classroom.
This engaging activity combines creativity with math practice, making it a festive and educational addition to the classroom!
