Knock, knock, spring! It's us...Wisconsin!
Believe it or not, we are down to our final nine weeks of the school year! We have had a great year teaching all of our kind, unique, and creative Spartan Stars, and we are so pleased with the growth they have shown. A kudos goes to you, our families, for getting your children to school on time and ready to learn each day. As always, the last few months of school are a busy home stretch. In addition to the academic gains we see students make at this time of year, we also eagerly anticipate a host of fun activities, field days, field trips, and of course our upcoming kindergarten and second grade music programs. Each year, I marvel at how fast a school year just flies by!
With the lion and lamb days of spring, I ask that you please be mindful of the weather each day before sending your child to school. We get the gamut...warm, cool, wet, dry, muddy…but hopefully no more snow! At least keep the boots and coats out for just a bit longer to make sure. Some children may even be ready for some independence by teaching them how to check the weather on a thermometer and/or look at weather forecasts to make an independent selection for outerwear each morning. This time is also a good reminder to ensure all of your child’s gear is clearly labeled with their name. Please remind them that part of being responsible is to mind their belongings. Our lost and found sure does pile up quickly, and it is a shame how we end up donating such a large amount of unclaimed and un-labeled items throughout each school year.
Thinking of recess and all the energy our students burn up working and learning during the day, I am reminded that our students will get hungry! With that, I have a brief ask of you. Each morning, teachers offer an optional time for students to eat a snack brought from home. If you want your child to eat a snack, please send one with them. We reserve a stock of extra snacks for students whose families might have barriers to providing one, and also for the one-off days where a family might simply forget to send one. We have been needing to restock this supply more frequently than expected, and are asking for your help to please send a snack for your child (instead of asking for a school snack). If you need assistance with this, please contact our Program Support Teacher Keri Bockenhauer at bockenk@mcfsd.org.
Last month, we wrapped up another successful round of “Welcome to Kindergarten” Orientations for over 100 incoming kindergarten families that will be joining us next year. It was a treat for us to show off what a “Day in the Life of Kindergarten” looks like to our class of 2037!
Till next time!

CEPS Phy Ed Swim Unit is Back!
The CEPS PE swim unit is back for FIRST and SECOND graders! Students will be swimming for 5 days in a row. Week 1 runs from April 22-26 and Week 2 runs from April 29-May 3. You will receive a paper copy of your students' specific schedule soon if you have not already. They will be walking with their teachers and classmates to the high school pool. Parents/Guardians, please have your students practice changing from school clothes to swim wear and back. Students are expected to bring their swim gear, towel, and goggles if they so desire. Please help remind your students to bring their swim apparel every day. We highly recommend packing a plastic bag for their wet suit. Brushes and hair ties are ideal for students with long hair. The pool does have swim gear available for anyone who forgets but in the past they did not lend out goggles so please plan accordingly.
Questions regarding swimming and the swim unit?
Please contact Mrs K at klappea@mcfsd.org
Thank you!

Measles: Facts & Information
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The CDC has reported measles cases are currently occurring in multiple states – CDC Measles Cases and Outbreaks. The McFarland School District Health Services would like to take this opportunity to provide some information about measles and how to prevent it. Measles is a viral infection that causes fever, cough, a rash, sore eyes, and can lead to serious complications. Measles spreads very easily, so it is important to protect against infection. Getting vaccinated is the best way to prevent measles. DHS - Measles Fact Sheet
Two doses of Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccine provide the best protection against disease. These doses must be separated by at least 28 days. MMR vaccine is routinely recommended between 12-15 months and the second dose before entering school, at 4-6 years. Waivers to the school requirements are available for religious, health, and personal conviction reasons. However, in the event of an outbreak of measles students with waivers may be excluded from school until the outbreak is declared over.
It is important for you to check your child’s immunization records to make sure they have received two doses of MMR vaccine. You may check your child’s immunization record by logging on to the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR). You may also see your child's school immunization record on Infinite Campus > Health. Your local health department, family health care provider or online health MyChart may also have your child’s immunization record. If you have specific questions for the MSD Health Services Department, please reach out to District Nurse, Stephanie Peplinski at peplins@mcfsd.org, (608)838-4679. Thank you
