Monthly Update-April 2018

The INTERMEDIATE experience....

If we truly want SIS to be the very best school in the universe, the first step is believing that this is possible. Our staff continues to put in extra time and effort to make absolutely certain the opening day (and every day thereafter) will be very special for our kids. This past Wednesday all of our classroom teachers worked hard to identify a variety of instructional approaches that will best serve all of our students. We also had the pleasure of listening to other schools share what types of things we need to be ready for as SIS opens its doors in August.

STEP UP DAY!

On May 23rd we will be having our Move up day at Lakeview. All of the current 3rd and 4th grade students will be meeting in the gym at 1:05 for a brief 10 minute intro to Solon Intermediate, and what some of the expectations will be as they enter their 4th and 5th grade year. We hope to have as many future SIS staff members as possible in the gym at that time, so they can put a face with a name. They will also be meeting their teacher for the 18/19 school year and taking part in a variety of team building games. Looking forward to that Wednesday!

Who else is excited?

Over the course of the last few monthly updates, we have heard from students and staff members regarding what they are most excited about come this August. What are YOU excited about as a parent? If you would like to share anything, please email me. Looking forward to hearing from you!!

Questions from last month...

We had a few questions from this past month. Thanks to those of you that have questions and submit them! Here they are...

1. Will 5th grade students have the ability to join VEX Robotics like they currently do at the Middle School?

This first year, no. This will be a middle school club moving forward. As SIS grows, there will be some opportunities for kids in regards to organizations/clubs outside of the academic day.

2. Who will my son or daughter's 4th grade teacher be next year?

SIS will use a similar structure for identifying next year's teacher in 4th or 5th grade. Please see the bulleted items below that highlight what we look at when generating these lists. If you did not get a copy of Mrs. Rickels' letter, let us know and we can ensure that you do.

In generating a profile of each student, we attempt to gain as much information as possible in order to insure a setting that best meets his or her learning needs.

Among other things, we consider each of the follow:

Balance of gender

Heterogeneous academic ability levels

Organizational Skills

Behavioral Skills

Social and Emotional Needs

Special Education Needs

Medical Needs

Positive or Negative Relationships among individual students

Teacher, Counselor or Administrative recommendations

Learning Style Needs

Previous relationships between the teacher and the family
