For purposes of this policy, “personal communication device” (PDC) includes non-school issued computers, smart watches, tablets, iPhones, Android devices, Windows, Mobile devices, and/or other web-enabled devices of any type.
Grades K-1: Students in grades K-1 are not permitted to possess Personal Communication Devices in school at any time.
Gades 2-8: Students in grades 2-8 are prohibited from using a Personal Communication Device. PCDs must be powered off and kept in a bookbag, locker, or class cubby for the duration of the school day. It is not to be on their person/pocket/jacket/etc.
Grades 9-12: All PCDs are to be powered off and out of sight or in the designated room pocket when the bell rings to begin class, and should remain there until the end of class. Phones should not be taken out of the room when a student is on an active pass (i.e. to the office, guidance counselor, clinic, or restroom). Students may use phones appropriately before the tardy bell in the morning, during class change, during lunch, and after school.
Consequences of not adhering to the Personal Communication Device Board Policy:
Violation 1: Device is confiscated and turned into the main office. Parents/Guardians must pick up and sign for the device from the office.
Violation 2: Device is confiscated and turned into the main office. Parents/Guardians must pick up and sign for the device from the office. Students will need to turn their device into the office upon arrival each day thereafter for an amount of time determined by the building principal/assistant principal.
Violation 3: Device is confiscated and turned into the main office. Parents/Guardians must pick up and sign for the device from the office. Students will need to turn their device into the office upon arrival each day thereafter for an amount of time determined by the building principal. An additional consequence will be issued at this point as well, to be determined by the building principal/assistant principal
Violation 4: The fourth and any subsequent violations could result in Out-of-School Suspension or recommendation for expulsion for continued violations of non-compliance.
Failure to follow the directions of the teacher or administrator when asked to hand over their cell phone or personal communication device will result in an automatic consequence assigned for non-compliance.
Personal Communication devices, including but not limited to those with cameras, may not be activated or utilized at any time in any school situation where a reasonable expectation of personal privacy exists. These locations and circumstances include, but are not limited to classrooms, gymnasiums, locker rooms, shower facilities, restrooms, and any other area(s) where students or others may change clothes or be in any stage or degree of disrobing or changing clothes. The Superintendent and Principal are authorized to determine other specific locations and situations where the use of a Personal Communication Device is absolutely prohibited. Violations will result in immediate disciplinary action as determined by the building principal/assistant principal.
Students are expressly prohibited from using covert means to listen-in or make a recording (audio or video) of any meeting or activity at school. This includes placing recording devices, or other devices with on, or two-way audio communication technology (i.e. technology that allows a person off-site to listen to live conversations and sounds taking place in the location where the device is located), within a student’s book bag or on the student’s person without express consent from the Superintendent or Principal. Violations will result in immediate disciplinary action as determined by the building principal.

When students receive a positive referral their photo is taken, the receive a bracelet, candy or a pencil. Additionally, students receiving positive referrals are honored as we hang their photo in the hallway of each student receiving a positive office referral and these students are also honored on our morning announcements which can be viewed on our Youtube channel, and their pictures scroll on the TV in the office. Safer Ohio School Tip Line
Safer Ohio School Tip Line
The Safer Ohio School Tip Line is a free safety resource available to all Ohio schools. The tip line is an anonymous reporting system that accepts both calls and texts 24 hours a day.
This tip line allows students and adults to anonymously share information with school officials and law enforcement about threats to student safety—whether that involves a threatened mass incident or harm to a single student.
Things to report to the tip line include (but are not limited to):
Bullying incidents;
Withdrawn student behaviors;
Verbal or written threats observed toward students, faculty or schools;
Weapon/suspicious devices on or near school grounds;
Gang related activities;
Unusual/suspicious behavior of students or staff;
Self-harm or suicidal sentiments; and
Any other school safety related concerns.
Every tip can remain anonymous. School safety analysts may ask for additional information, but the caller can remain secret or leave his or her contact information for later follow-up.
Calls or texts to 844-SaferOH (844-723-3764) are answered by analysts within Ohio Homeland Security. If action is needed, the analysts immediately forward information to local school officials, law enforcement agencies and the Ohio School Safety Center (OSSC) for action and follow up.
The OSSC partners with the Ohio Department of Education to follow up with affected school and law enforcement agencies to make sure that the incident is investigated, action is taken and resources and supports are provided when necessary.
Tecumseh Education Connection
The Education Connection is a telephone number that you can call 24-hours a day to listen to your child’s homework assignments, report your child’s absence, hear the lunch menu, find out the scores of the big game, hear about school closings and leave a private message for a staff member.
You will still need to call your child in if they will not be attending school, or doing their online work for the day. We will still need to document attendance. We are marking students with green, yellow and red attendance.
- Calling your child in sick.
- Leave a voicemail with questions.

Fall Fundraiser: Help us Help our School!
The Tecumseh Elementary PTO runs a fall fundraiser that will begin in early October. Our elementary PTO provides a lot of services for our elementary schools, teachers, and students. All proceeds from this fall fundraiser go directly to the PTO to be disbursed throughout the year to help our schools. Here are some of the items that will be provided this year, with the proceeds from this fundraiser:
- Field trip transportation (over $5000):, field trips would likely not happen without the PTO covering this large cost
- Teacher grants: teachers apply for grants throughout the year to purchase additional classroom supplies and run fun programs like hatching baby chicks, planting school gardens etc. Last year we awarded over $6000 to our staff to use to enhance the classroom experience for their students
- Fifth Grade Day: a fun celebration for 5th graders at the end of the year, including games, photo booth, t-shirts signed by their classmates, and lunch
- Teacher Appreciation Week: a week of treats for our staff at all elementary schools, to show our appreciation for all they do for our students/community
- School monetary gifts: depending on the needs of each school, funds are given to purchase items that are not available to schools with their current budget, such as new playground equipment, etc.
Please strongly consider participating in this fundraiser by asking family/friends to purchase these items, as our students and teachers are depending on us! If someone is not interested in purchasing a food item, the option to give a donation is also available. All details about the fundraiser will be sent home with your student at the beginning of October. The PTO thanks you for your partnership!
Field Trips
Field trips play a vital role in elementary education by providing hands-on experiences that complement classroom learning. These outings enhance engagement and motivation, as students can explore subjects like science, history, and art in real-world contexts, making learning more enjoyable and memorable. They also foster social skills development, encouraging teamwork and cooperation as students interact outside the classroom. Additionally, field trips introduce students to diverse cultures and perspectives, promoting inclusivity and understanding. By strengthening ties to the community, these experiences highlight local history and resources. Moreover, exploring new environments encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Ultimately, the memorable experiences created during field trips can have a lasting impact, reinforcing lessons and inspiring future learning.
- 5th - Victoria Theater
- 4th - Carillon Park

Touch a Truck Event
A "Touch a Truck" career event is a family-friendly gathering where children and adults get the chance to explore and interact with a variety of trucks, heavy machinery, and service vehicles. These events are designed to offer a hands-on experience, allowing participants to climb inside vehicles like fire trucks, police cars, ambulances, construction equipment, and utility trucks.
In addition to exploring the vehicles, attendees often get to meet professionals from various fields, such as firefighters, police officers, and construction workers, who explain their jobs and the tools they use. This provides a unique opportunity to introduce children to career paths in public services, transportation, and construction. The events usually include interactive activities, like simulators or workshops, to further engage attendees and make the learning experience fun. Our "Touch a Truck" event is here to offer a relaxed environment that encourages curiosity and learning about different career options.
