How to Help with Boredom
With summer break quickly approaching, many parents are likely gearing up to hear the dreaded statement “I’m bored” from their children. Although this can be frustrating to hear because we are looked to as the cure for boredom, we can take this opportunity to remember that boredom often sparks creativity and try to help our children feel more comfortable with feeling bored.
Playing simple and quick games together like Eye Spy or creating a scavenger hunt can help pass the time and can in turn spark some ideas for what to do next. After your activity, the likelihood of your child finding something fun to do on their own will increase and the boredom will subside.
Let’s shift our views of boredom from being a burden and instead try to remember that boredom is essential to kids and will increase their creativity, and imagination and help them grow in important ways!
Check out this guide from Big Life Journal for some fun ideas on how to keep your bored child entertained and engaged.
