HOMECOMING "UNDER THE STARS"
Congratulations to Queen Alyssa Smith and King John Botts-Papcke!
CARE TO LEARN
Care to Learn recently received a donation from the Historium Quilters. We were able to give them a tour of our new area and they were so excited to see what they were contributing to, especially two of the ladies being retired teachers from Gainesville. Care to Learn also sent them with tshirts for all the quilters that contributed to the material and making the quilts.
We received a $2,000 donation from the Ozark County Substance Abuse Task Force back in October. We were also able to give them a tour of our new space, to show them what we were currently doing for our students. I spent time talking with them about the vaping education that is now available to students who want to be educated or need help quitting. They were so thrilled to see what the district is doing to support students and families.
2ND QUARTER ASSEMBLY
The second quarter assembly on Friday, January 17 included a Rock, Paper, Scissors battle, a karaoke performance, a lively game of tic-tac-toe, and recognition of the Students of the Quarter.

YEARBOOK
The GHS Yearbook Staff has been busy taking pictures, writing stories and captions, and designing pages for the upcoming 2024-2025 book. Next week, students will begin selling yearbook ads to local businesses. If your business would like to support the book by purchasing an ad, please email Mrs. Gilmore at cgilmore@gainesville.k12.mo.us.
HS BOYS BASKETBALL
We ended the 2024 portion of our season with some encouraging play from both JV and Varsity. JV and Varsity both came away with good Homecoming night wins vs. Summersville and the varsity went 2-2 in the Cabool Holiday tournament, playing 4 competitive games and demonstrating an ability to play well against some solid teams. As we move forward we continue to talk with our teams about the importance of enjoying the opportunity to play and be a part of the team. While we all obviously like to win games, the main objective is to give our guys the opportunity to improve and to learn not only the game of basketball but also values that they can carry with them through other areas of school and their progression toward becoming solid young men. I feel like we have a good group who will continue to work hard.

HS GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Gainesville Lady Bulldogs hosted their 2nd Annual Holiday Tournament over Christmas break. The Lady Bulldogs took 5th place this year beating Cabool 45-34. The Bakersfield Lady Lions took 3rd place beating Bradleyville 57-47. This year's champions went to the Seymour Lady Tigers, beating Mansfield 51-41.
The season is half way over and I feel like these girls are getting better each game and moving in the right direction. We are a young group but have shown a lot of growth through the first half of the season. I look forward to watching this group continue to work hard and improve as the season progresses.

1ST GRADE
2ND GRADE
Students in second grade have been focusing on Earth’s systems. They have focused on mastering the water cycle, identifying events that change Earth’s surface rapidly and slowly, as well as understanding the key differences between weathering, erosion, and deposition. They have completed hands-on activities such as making volcanoes, water cycle bracelets, and using candy to demonstrate weathering.
3RD GRADE
Third grade students are beginning a unit about area. They have worked with square inches to fill in shapes to determine the area in square inches. Many students are grateful they have worked to master their multiplication facts to simply the process of finding area with the formula, a=L x W, or area = length x width.
4TH GRADE
We are still learning about Earth’s forces. Students are loving learning about volcanoes and now earth’s layers. We did an investigation comparing thick and thin lava and predicted which type of lava would be in an exploding volcano. Anything hands on is a winner in our book!
We have also just started learning all about fractions. We are doing very well with the early concepts.
Another fun activity we had was making our own gingerbread houses out of graham crackers. It was a great activity before leaving for Christmas break. There may have been a little too much sugar consumed!
5TH GRADE
Fifth grade students have been studying the effects of gravity on different objects. They had to design, build and modify “toilet paper tube marble runs”. The requirements were to have the slowest rolling marble, while utilizing a minimum of 3 direction changes.
